This Napster sounds like a pretty good deal.  Ten bucks a month, unlimited downloads...I'm in!  Well, not yet.  I'm apprehensive.  Does it have a very good selection of prog?  Is it about as good as RealRhapsody?  Better? Worse?

you can never have too much Phil Collins!

Why pay for something that sounds worse than illegal copies?

As far as prog goes, there's only a few king Crimson albums. There's only the really commercialy successful stuff available (ELP, floyd, Yes, Tull, rush, ect.).

Limewire have a good selection of prog, including Zappa, Dream Theater, Shadow Gallery, Van Der Graaf Generator and even some Magellan.

Yes it is though it isn't legal. The selection isn't that wide of variety either.
The more rare bands have a select amount of songs.

There's nothing as the almost sexual pleasure of opening the plastic cover or the box of a new legal  CD, even the smell is sensual.

Nothing downloaded can remotely compare to that.

I agree completely. There's few things I enjoy more than opening a new CD,
popping it in and reading the lyrics with the music.

I'm VERY AGREE with the 2 last post

Yes i have download mp3 on this site and i was using that for listen new group but i will never pay to download music or buy my music 1$ each song on itune or others like it.

Buy music is important specially in progressive beacause the market it s small ( not too big like Hip Hop or Pop Music etc...)

That s my opinion

do not pay for downloads.  if you are going to download, use eMule and get it for free (excellent selection of prog).  if you are going to pay, buy the damn CD.

reasons:
- napster is a raw deal.  you pay the 10 bucks a month and get unlimited downloads, but as soon as you stop paying the monthly fee, your downloaded files disappear if you dont back them up (i.e. burn to CD), so you might as well buy the thing.
- There is something nice about holding a new CD in your hand

Agreed, don't pay for downloads.  The only thing better than a new CD is a new vinyl.

If you want to pay for your downloads, you could try www.emusic.com. They focus on small labels and lesser known bands. They do have some prog, like Frank Zappa and Henry Cow, and recently they added some Gentle Giant (sadly those albums are not yet available for download in the Netherlands ). Their MP3's have a good soundquality and remain on your computer when your subscription has ended. And they are relatively cheap: 40 MP3's for $9,99. If you want to try them out, you can get a free trial with 50 MP3's. If you decide not to get a subscription, they still let you keep those 50 MP3's.
