Topic: Godbluff: Arrow or Slepwalkers? Posted: November 12 2005 at 01:50 |
I can't decide, but I think Sleepwalkers as superior for that funny part very similar with Raoul Casadei's Liscio Romagnolo, italian traditional dance music!

Must admit, I'm not sure of the value of this type of poll but I have
put one in for Sleepwalkers probably for sentimental reasons because it
was one of the first tracks that drew me into VGG and it does
incorporate a good cross-section of VGG eclectic abilities, full of
energy and drama.

Sleepwalkers probably will take the cake in this poll, but I've always preferred Arrow for its wonderful song-structure; great build-up in the beginning and a very cohesive track, with inspiring variations on that brilliant saxophone riff, which holds the compostition together throughout the eight or so minutes. Love it, the atmosphere created is so unique! Arrow was the first track on Godbluff that hooked me, though now I really like all four of them. Sleepwalkers is right behind Arrow, I think...
Magnificent album, Godbluff.

Very hard to decide, but I'll have to go with Sleepwalkers. It's linger, with more interesting instrumental passages and solos. Arrow is a great song too, but Sleepwalkers is a bit more musically complex and interesting.

I chose Sleepwalkers. Arrows is great as well (as is the whole album),
but I don't like the beginning that much, because i always get the
impression that I know the structure from another song (but I can't
find it, damn).
But well, maybe it's just because Sleepwalkers was the first VDGG I
listened to - and it really hit me! it would be harder for me to decide
between Sleepwalkers and Scorched Earth (which is my fave of the album
at the moment).

Arrow for me. It and Scorched Earth routinely battle for my favourite on that fantastic album

Sleepwalkers - I consider Arrow as a reminiscence of Scorched Earth, two songs about agression (can't find more suitable word) - I love especially the ending with "If I only had time" phrase - wonderful coda to the ending of "Undercover Man" - " yet you still have time" - and then it beatifully melts into Scorched Earth.
Godbluff - great great album, and I have a video of their gig performing live the whole album.

Sleepwalkers for me
Sleepwalkers live this year has been fabulous one of the highlights of each show I was lucky to see.
We have not been treated to Arrow (as to do so Hugh Banton would need
to play bass guitar as opposed to bass pedals). Would have loved to
have heard them do it live though.

I love both of them, and I think this album is one of the best albums made ever. but Sleepwalkers was the first track that drew me to this album, and Arrow was the last one I learned to love.
