Seems like there are a lot of appearances of jesters and clowns in European prog.

What are your thoughts? Any reason for why this might be?

Well, I have to say that I'm only familiar with Marillion's "Script for a Jesters Tear", but some quite interesting other answers so far.
                      quality over quantity, and all kind of PopcoRn almost beyond

The themes of jesters and clowns have now virtually become a cliche. Any prog parody nowadays will surely feature a jester, as have some quite awful prog bands. Bit like the 60’s fixation with songs about gypsies representing free spirits…..

It's appropriate that Svetonio - by way of his three sock puppet accounts - is heavily involved in a thread about clowns. Narcissistic racists like him, however, are not amusing enough to even rise to the level of jester.
