I have four Steely Dan CD albums and two by Donald Fagen, so it's fair to say I'm a fan.

Aja seems to be one of those albums you have to like otherwise you demonstrate bad taste/ bad understanding of music. It's a strange album for me as nothing really stands out yet it's so often elevated to such mystical heights of greatness as one of the 'perfect' albums. There is loads of other stuff by them I enjoy especially the earlier 'rockier' stuff. Impossible for me to do an album ranking. I have a box set of all their 72-80 releases and happy to delve into that as a totality.

Difficult to rank them, as I'm only a moderate fan, but well aware of their 70's discography
But I'd say Royal Scam, Countdown are my preferred ones Next up would be Thrill and Aja Pretzel is next Last would be Gaucho and Kati Lied

let's just stay above the moral melee
prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword |
