This Is The Sea began a 3 album run of absolutely great albums by the Waterboys.

Wait....no Pogues? Rum, Sodomy & the Lash? They're just as "Irish" as the Waterboys (in fact, Mike Scott of WB is in fact Scottish and Karl Wallinger was Welsh).

I don't like The Pogues at the best of times and the sordid album title put me off including them in the poll. In all honesty, I prefer "In the Navy" by the Village People.  EmbarrassedEmbarrassed

^ Microdisney are surely one of the most underrated Irish bands. Still, it's better to be underrated than overlooked. Smile

just as well since it would have been tough to choose between Clannad and Pogues this year.  Two very different albums, but perhaps the pinnacle for Clannad and definitely for the Pogues

I can always add The Pogues album to the listings in retrospect, even though it's too late to add it to the poll. Embarrassed

I agree. I never could handle the tuneless, drunken, guttural croaking of Shane MacGowan.

I should have been a pair of ragged claws
Scuttling across the floors of uncertain seas
