No album here I would give more than a four, but I do like these three:
Dire Straits - Dire Straits Brian Eno - Ambient 1: Music for Airports |

Went with the Cars debut. Talking Heads would be my second choice. I am only a minor bag within the sugar delights of the brass exhaust.

Paul, your low overall ratings are shocking. You are normally such a positive guy. I should vote for Throbbing Gristle for the fun of it; it's certainly in the five or six albums I like here, but if I'm honest I love Dire Straits' debut more. (I'm still surprised Paul gives this just three stars, which if my perception of him is correct just means that he wouldn't leave a pub just because this album is played. )

Dire Straits I guess.
No Rainbow, Queen, Foreigner, UK, Jethro Tull, Whitesnake, Rush, Judas Priest... well, not worthy enough it seems.

I agree. This is quite possibly my worst ever year-by-year poll, but Things Can Only Get Better in 1979, at least according to D:Ream. Look out for Professor Brian Cox on keyboards. Blink and you'll miss him. |

My three-star rating for Dire Straits' debut doesn't look nearly so bad when you compare it to my overall ratings for their entire discography. 1978: Dire Straits - Dire Straits - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpK472A2SLgQu1h6xIgGhgEK 1979: Dire Straits - Communique - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpKeJUfSumzvojeis1Lcce0V 1979: Dire Straits - Live at Rockpalast - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpLI27KRejp6wJZdvzYCAL2v 1980: Dire Straits - Making Movies - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpL2bB6u_vJte-aGmJWQ0LYD 1980: Dire Straits - Rockpop: Live in Dortmund - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpKFY4_yOZhApN2hLqSIAFPd 1982: Dire Straits - Love Over Gold - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpKsTw6WMIo1jEU8x7Y_SeA8 1984: Dire Straits - Alchemy: Dire Straits Live - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpLjAfLiVip2vdairGtLYm2I 1985: Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpLPmx_OKKKJQNzrjIuEGQam 1985: Dire Straits - Live at Wembley Arena - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpJuVT-yoRQxSgcRZ0trr44P 1986: Dire Straits - Live in Sydney, Australia - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpIBOMFiJUoRipSEPd5cjSew 1988: Dire Straits - Mandela Tribute: Live at Wembley - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpJv5FKqqmi6IG4e1HGfAvGn 1991: Dire Straits - On Every Street - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpIBd3QIBEsVeWn-b53f3BEX 1992: Dire Straits - Live in Nimes, France - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpISfdvIVWyrg8EAiMTZj2Ou 1993: Dire Straits - On the Night - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL_TaS3ukydpJVu59adURa9-uNdnClg0lM |

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I'm surprised by the lack of love for Van Halen's legendary debut.

I considered Throbbing Gristle, but went to the other end of the spectrum and voted Dire Straits.

The Cars' debut was taking music in a direction I didn't like in 1978, but I have recovered from that. It's fantastic

The Cars' debut still manages to drive me to distraction, but in a good way.
