May 9 1936 to June 15 2023. 

A wonderful body of work, and then some!!!!

In 1992 she went into politics and won an election to Parliament, where she served for 23 years, which accounts for her having pretty much stopped doing films.

A small listing of her films ... definitely a favorite for Ken Russell, from her days at the RSC.

Mary, Queen of Scotts (Queen Elizabeth) -- Charles Jarrott
A Touch of Class (Vickie) -- Melvin Frank
The Devil is a Woman (Sister Geraldine) -- Damiano Damiani
Housecalls (Ann) -- Howard Zieff
Hopscotch (Isobel) -- Ronald Neame
Salome's Last Dance (Herodias) -- Ken Russell
The Rainbow (Anna Brangwen) -- Ken Russell
Beyond Therapy (Charlotte) -- Robert Altman

Of all these, my "favorite" is the first one, which is one of the most far out theatrical things done in the 20th century with some outstanding performances all around, and an incredible visual treat, although seeing it in the film which is a filmed performance/rehearsal, is OK, but I think we might have wanted a bit more "freedom" than the 4 walls of theater.

Her work in "Women in Love" is also special, although Oliver Reed and Alan Bates steal the show. "The Music Lovers" is another film that is visually crazy and fun to watch.

Seems to me that she liked Ken Russell because he allowed her to just flow along, and not have to worry about "direction" which is something that stage directors tend to like, and gets taken away with a lot of film directors. But some actors manage to make it work.
