I think, it's fine to distinguish between the historical meaning of "Heavy Metal" and a retrospective definition with the main
concern how to distinguish between Heavy Metal and Hard Rock.

An interesting question can be which of these "other" Hard/Heavy pre-'80s albums are most Progressive. That would imo include:

Captain Beyond - Captain Beyond
Scorpions - Lonesome Crow

Early Queen is blisteringly heavy at least the first 4 albums includinhg A Night At the Opera, and are big influence on the heavy genre

True, and not just early Queen, there were heavy songs on every album in the 70s.

I'd say A Night At the Opera is rather arty Hard Rock, or very hard Art Rock. Smile
