Finally some votes here... unfortunately I got myself into much increased workload after the times of Covid and find it harder to do these polls justice. As always tehre's quite a bit of good material though. Kalabancoro would surely have been a favourite but I knew that one already. Other than that votes for Yann Tiersen & Elizabeth Fraser and Saro Consentino & Peter Hammill. For the third vote there were three candidates, namely Hogarth & Barbieri, Espers, and Bona & Rodriguez. I was tempted to vote for Richard Bona as he has no votes yet and I didn't vote for the other one which is great, but I'll instead add to Espers' votes as listening again I really dig this one, and Richard Bona won't read here anyway so he won't be too sad.

I vote for Lifeforms in the bonus category (ah, I am allowed to vote for Fraser again, phew!). The Hammill & Isildur's Bane one is great as ever, but I shouldn't vote for Hammill twice as I know him too well, even though there is always more stuff to dig out that I hadn't heard yet. I could well have voted for Tindersticks here but I'll finally give Richard Bona a well deserved vote (so in fact it's half Hammill again).

However, the thread is still alive. And it was indispensable to carry out the IPs for two years without interruption. If it had left himself to spontaneity, we would not have had all those IPs and that participation. Moreover, at certain times, most of the participants were in favor of one poll per week. The reality is that if you leave everything to chaos (read: spontaneity), these polls become like all the others, where what matters is the vote, and there is little discussion, which is what matters, indeed that mattered. But if many friends no longer have time to discuss, spontaneity is the only solution. I have moved away from the constant frequency I had before precisely because the IPs with so much discussion have disappeared. |

The organization worked really well. This board generally is not always very interactive. I know this and being a Prog Reviewer were your two big passions, hopefully at least one of those continues to keep you interested. I’m interested in PA as long as I continue to find music I wish to share, discover music from others, and can have in-depth and superficial conversations and chat about music and other things with open-minded, rational, kind and humourous people here even occasionally.

Morphine - Free Love reminded me how much I adored Sandman's murky bass.

So far, the interactive polls this year have been hosted by Kees, George, Greg and me. Like Greg I also have a few topic suggestions but I think it would be exciting to see what ideas others have.

I have one or two or three ideas; an easy one - I think - to attract some participation, and a couple bad ones... ;) If no one else, I can put one up later today or tomorrow.

Another enjoyable playlist. Great vocalist s all around. I distributed my votes over five vocalists.
In the main division: Rainbirds - Waltz for Jane (Katharina Franck) Treat Her Right - I Think She Likes Me (Mark Sandman) Cocteau Twins - In the Gold Dust Rush (Elizabeth Fraser) In the side division: Isildurs Bane & Peter Hammill - Before You Know It Europeans - Going to Work (Hogarth |

As for the polls, I have an idea that is something on the side and borrows from the Interactive Polls. As these polls aren't much at all about the voting, what I have enjoyed is the listening, sharing, and when it is there, the comments. Plus generating a playlist, which is what this "poll" would be focused on.
If I do my idea it would probably attract a portion of the participants here but may have interest from those not usually around so I think it could run while a true Interactive Poll is up. Edited by mathman0806 - May 28 2023 at 05:50 |

^ A kind of "let's create a playlist together" kind of thread? With or without a poll attached? If not, these could very well co-exist, imo. Would bring some more dynamics to these forums outside of PP's polls and all "what kind of (sub-)genre" questions threads...

Don't we need a theme for the playlist? Or is it random songs? That would be a chore to go through.

Interesting discussion.
I thank Greg and Nickie. And Mila, Kees, George for their ideas. I would like to move this discussion in the Interactive poll team...

^ I guess George has that - a theme - in mind, otherwise it could become a bit directionless...

Kees has nailed the idea. With a theme. And in particular fir the one I am thinking of, contempory chamber music/ chamber rock based on a recent thread started by Negoba. I would use Logan's YouTube thread idea of asking to post one video at a time. Person can post more than once. Try not to repeat artists. I use the poll structure to list the music but voting is optional. This can be done with any theme. I only chose chamber music because of the recent thread and personal interest. This should be more casual and the theme would draw some who participate in the Intereactive Polls and some who do not. So, it could run separate to a "true" Interactive Poll. |

I don't know much about chamber music, chamber rock, so I guess I'm out. I had some ideas at some point: - great songs on not so good albums (we could do a prog round and a non-prog round) - great songs on debut albums (again, we could do a prog round and a non-prog round) - use of folklore in rock/jazz/metal/classical music and so on - Fun round: great songs from the 80s (songs that make you say "the 80s did not suck!" ). ^that's why I felt it would run along with nowhere since it's a narrower audience. It would make also be a test to see if this format could work.
Also copied my response to the team thread. |
