Ian, the axeman with Alan Parsons, Pilot, Eric Woolfson and Keats, sadly passed yesterday.

He also played on Kate Bush's 'The Kick Inside' and 'Lionheart'.. Very sad news indeed; a versatile and talented guitarist. Condolences to his family and friends RIP

RIP. His solo at the end of Wuthering Heights goes down as one of the all-time greats.

I admit I dismissed Pilot as "just" a pop band when they were around but actually they're pretty good and "Magic" is still featuring in an advert today.

Talking about Pilot, this is the announcement by David Paton in Twitter.

I have always enjoyed his tasty and melodic playing. Sadly, I have done yet another memorium listen (which happens too often these days). Many may find it odd, but I listened to APPs Vulture Culture, one of their lowest rated albums, but I had not listened to it in a long time and have quite frankly found it a highly enjoyable pop album. Bairnson's guitar parts are some of the best moments of the album. Condolences to his family, friends, bandmates, and other fans.

Not known to many people, Ian was also a very good sax and keyboard player as well as being a crack guitarist. He will always be the unsung hero of the Alan Parsons Project albums. RIP Ian.

"Magic" is so overplayed.  If you haven't heard it yet, listen to Pilot's rare but incredible "Two's A Crowd" album.  I think its the best unheard album ever!
listen to streaming stuff! no commercials!

I always liked this album and never understood the dismissal of it by the APP crowd. I don't know if it's because it didn't have the orchestra for the first time, or the lack of prog on this album, but it had wonderful vocals and tasty guitars. The synths filled admirably for the orchestra. RIP Ian, a musician whose work touched my soul.
