The grumpy aging prog star adresses the creative process for A Gallery of the Imagination, and also the disruptive behaviour of his dogs in the studio...

It's nice to see the grumpy old bugger still plying his trade. Here's a health to ol' Rick.

^ So it seems, after all the concept itself belongs to... Mussorgsky!

That’s what I thought when I was the cover. Let’s wait to hear what the music is all about.

His previous album The Red Planet was absolutely fantastic! This upcoming one will have the same musicians, plus a female vocalist. So, it will be a band album, and a Rock album, but I'm not so sure it will be a progressive album like The Red Planet. I'm intrigued, but will definitely want to hear more before pre-ordering this.

Yeah, it would be impossible to top The Red Planet, so I understand that he wants to do something different this time.

Hi,

I'm not sure he said anything new and interesting about the new piece in this small interview. I'm not sure that not many other "composers" do exactly the same thing when trying to put something together, so hearing him give us some MOR and MOSS about his next piece is rather ... disappointing for me!

I'll never take away his many accomplishments and incredible amount of music ... but if you're not gonna say anything ... just don't! If he had, at least, explained that he had never done things this way before, might have been interesting ... as would likely be the album!

I pass ... there is too much new stuff out of other places worth more these days!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

I’d like Jon Anderson to sing on this album. But probably he only sings his own lyrics.

The Red Planet is the kind of album one can only dream of from someone many decades into their career.

well I finally got to hear it as the MP3 was made available for download for those who pre-ordered from the Musisglue website. Its a bit of an eclectic mix but does have female vocals on a number of tracks ( Hayley Sanderson) . There are some nice piano pieces that recall his New age stuff and a little bit of prog. I suspect it won't go down generally as well as the Red Planet album.
