Despite having watched a couple of thousand world cinema films, I'm afraid to say I've never seen one...
Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

Hi,

As weird as this may sound, Dario was not on my must-see list, although a lot of GOBLIN albums were!

At the time, it was very clear that the film thing for the public was getting towards the gore and more gore and more violent, and I was not that interested in that and opted out. I might try to catch one of these films now, but the taste for it, is not really something that interests me, and I might cut it off. AND it's not likely that he would have learned about camera use for a lot of what did not exactly became known as "horror" but was a very strong precedent, and it was how Roman Polanski often used his camera in a hand, doing things and maneuvers that were not designed for cameras in those days, or until the later days, when video cameras became smaller and all of them hand driven!

I can appreciate a lot of film history, but in all honesty, I am not sure that Dario should be in the history of horror, other than the sheer quantity of films he made ... and how cheap so many of them looked, which told you the story about the money for it ... even though they made more money than most Fellini films!
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Profondo Rosso is the only one I've seen that I genuinely think is great. Stunning cinematography, great atmosphere and just very entertaining. A cult classic, and worth seeing for the intro alone. My favorite Goblin-score and album by quite some distance.

Suspiria look and sound fantastic. It's style over substance for sure, but I foundt it visually striking enough to enjoy sitting through it once. As for the rest of what I've seen, I found Argento's three earliest ones visually appealing as well. Imo all three of them were largely forgettable as movie experiences though. The Morricone-scores are spectacular of course. Three of his best, really (and like plenty of 1970's Giallo/horror soundtracks, as progressively rockin' as anything on PA).

I only know Inferno because Keith Emerson did the soundtrack. It's a mess of a film but I'll give it a vote anyway.

No vote for now, I haven't seen them all and some I've seen a while ago, I'd have to re-watch a few.

Profundo Rosso.  Argento is one of my all-time favorite directors.  Seeing his name at the top of a PA thread makes me happy.

I saw Inferno last night. Bava helped Argento on the movie, which explains the presence of Bava's gorgeous lighting. Combining Bava's colorful lighting and Argento's staging and framing makes Inferno one of the most gorgeous films I've ever seen. Add Keith Emerson's haunting score.

Another thing.  Argento's films' dreamy qualities make his films repeatedly watchable. I embrace the Argento Amnesia.  By the time I rewatch an Argento movie...I've forgotten many of the plot points. It's almost like watching the movie for the first time.  My husband experiences the Argento Amnesia too. Wink

^I can't say I remember the plots very well so I guess I experience this Argento Amnesia too. Maybe I should just watch them like you and your husband does. Enjoy them for their dreamy qualities and drop that "film critic" attitude.
