The Beatles' "Yesterday" has been re-done thousands of times, but I never hear anyone release a studio album with a Doors cover. A few cases, but nothing worth mentioning. Why do you think? I've seen a ton of local live bands who do covers of the 60/70s, and no one ever played their songs, but seems like all my favorites have been. I think no one wants to try and sing Jim Morrison. Singers sometimes want to emulate the non-music - the theatrical stuff, and some might not want to, but feel they have to. And I've never seen someone play an instrument while singing Jim. Here's something new that was uploaded. The Doors: Robby Krieger and John Densmore | Broken Record (Hosted by Rick Rubin) |

No one covers The Doors better than Ian Astbury and The Doors of the 21st Century.

I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth.

I can’t tell if the OP actually believes what they have posted, or is deliberately attempting to provoke discussion. I mean, The Doors are easily one of the most covered bands, live and in studio. I have seen so many bands and artists cover The Doors at gigs over the years, and heard plenty of covers of their songs either on the radio, or on releases I have purchased.
Not only have The Doors often been covered, from the time they were around until now, and presumably for a long time yet to come, but they are one of the most sampled bands in hip hop. Now I realise that is not the same thing as covering a song, but it does show that the band have a continued relevance and appreciation, which is much of the reason their songs are continued to be covered. Honestly, all of the well-known Doors songs I heard first as covers, and I doubt I am the only one. By the time I bought my Best of CD, I knew almost all the songs, yet hadn’t heard the originals. The Doors have such a wide appeal that I wouldn’t be surprised if there were more covers by bands and artists who are not rock, than are. There are so many Doors covers by bands from, eg, soul, trip hop and r&b bands and artists. Not to mention those bands and artists who aren’t just rock, but metal. Light My Fire, eg, has been covered by Amorphis, Massive Attack and Stevie Wonder (and probably 100 other artists…). I have heard sooooo many great Doors covers over the years, live and in studio. |

One of the best-known cover versions of The Doors I know of is "Light My Fire" by Jose Feliciano.

Friedrich Gulda's extended piano version of "Light My Fire" is absolutely beautiful |
