Here are a variety of artists who have died before 30. I have included multiple genres of music, and could barely include any prog rock figures, since most of them have not died under 30. In fact, a ton of them are still alive today. People in the 27-club also get treated like gods put down from heaven to serenade this artless wasteland(Earth) and improve it.

Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Robert Johnson, Ian Curtis.

Dimebag Darrell died at 38.

I replaced Dimebag with Ronnie van Zant from Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Piotr Dziemski, the drummer of Czesław Niemen's Aerolit died at 22. :(

Pekka Streng died at 26 and is included in the archives. All his albums, including the posthumous Unen maa are highly recommended.

Dead and Euronymous of the band Mayhem also died young.

Jeremy Ward, who contributed vocals and electronic effects for At the Drive-In, De Facto, The Mars Volta, and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. His sound is all over the Deloused album, but died just a month before it was released. Another 27 club member.

I'll vote for Tim Buckley, Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix, but when I saw the topic's title, Nick Drake is the name that immediately came to mind. He died at 26.

Sadly, my all time favorite musician is a member of the "27 Club", Triumvirat's Helmut Koellen, who died on May 3rd, 1977. His surviving music means a whole lot to me.
Also listed is Randy Rhoads, who I was lucky enough to see live with Ozzy in the summer of 1981. I miss him, as well.

Helmut Köllen, Tim Buckley, Ian Curtis

Outside this list (and on top of mine): Nick Drake

Jim Morrison

Also, a well-deserved mention for one of the lesser-known members of the "27 Club": Pete Ham of Badfinger (1947-1975) Broken Heart

Missing from this list- Nick Drake. a Genius gone too soon. so sad he hadn't got the recognition he deserved while he was alive, imagine the projects he could of done in the future.

Definitely in agreement with Nick Drake being an obvious omission. I went with Jeff Buckley off this list (Lover You Should've Come Over is one of the best songs ever written as far as I'm concerned), but I definitely would have chosen Nick if he were on it

Take me down, to the underground
Won't you take me down, to the underground
Why oh why, there is no light
And if I can't sleep, can you hold my life

Jim Morrison (If I could pick one who lived, he would definitely be the one. The Doors is one of my favorite groups, too, and Jim was funny guy)

P.S. - Terry Kath died at 31. Feel free to delete this, but when he died, Chicago died... Great singer/guitarist. Might be one of the most underrated.
