A great playlist to go through! With a couple of very enjoyable rocking tracks (Alternosfera, Edwin, Angels), a couple of great classics (Johnny Nash, Traffic, Jackson Browne), and the always convincing Peter Hammill...

The stand-out track for me was: Cisnienie - Same Trupy. No surprise they have been added to the PA-database in the mean time. I listened to their latest album, which has been added to my "to buy"-list. Then it is a bit of a toss-up between three other great tracks by Startled Insects, Nordmann and I Mother Earth. I think I'll go with the terrestrial things now: the Startled Insects and I Mother Earth.  Collapse Under the Empire could have been struggling for the podium too, had they be nominated...

Sam: Traffic. Some psych jazz fusion here, rich instrumentation, just the way I like it. The perfect soundtrack to get in the mood for a summer festival that I have been waiting for for so long.

Kees: dEUS, to date one of the best rock acts to come out of Belgium. This track is rather on the dark and edgy side, but still quite accessible and super groovy. Love it!

Malcom: Johnny Nash, a great classic and loyal companion in any situation that encourages to sing along. What more can you ask for?! - I'm glad that you enjoyed Nordmann! I think you forgot to vote in the table, though. 

Honorable mentions: Ciśnienie and Startled Insects are both amazing discoveries, but I can’t see myself listening to them during a road trip. They are musically quite sophisticated and could affect my ability to drive. lol But thanks a lot for sharing guys, much appreciated!

Thanks guys for this musical journey. I really enjoyed it!

About as American as being into Monty Python. I'm not American and Douglas Adams was English. One of my favourite Danes at this forum is a big Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fan, and I know he is quite well known around the world, but I would expect best known in the English-speaking world. I would think even quite a few lesser fans of Hitchiker's would get that reference. ;)

I just stayed in Belgium for a while on vacation, quite some time, as I put it, sounds like an exaggeration. I was thinking of a trip some years ago where my wife and I travelled around Europe for a month or so and we spent longer in Belgium than most places on that particular trip. I had joined my wife on a work trip and we combined that with personal stays and destinations.

I never said that Douglas Adams was American. I briefly skimmed an article in the Hitchhikers fandom wiki which stated that there was a British and an American version of the novel and that the phrase in question differed in those two versions, that is the 'dirty' word has been avoided in the American version by using 'Belgium' instead. Something like that. I've heard of that novel but never read it. I assume that guys are more into that kind of stuff.

As for Belgium, if you appreciate good food that's the place to be. A persuasive argument to extend the stay! LOL

I know you hadn’t. Holy Zarquon’s singing fish, please excuse the swutty joojooflop, I must have read the American turlingdrome version of it. Shame I lack a Babelfish for better interpreting intent. Yeah, more of a boys thing. I haven’t read them since I was a teenager, but it is something I often reference, like when I remarked to my family on the Belgium shirt the other day (become part of my DNA). I sure do appreciate Belgian chocolate.

I think their chocolate is just the cherry on top. The Belgians have in general an exquisite cuisine (beyond fries that are in fact Belgian), one of the best in Europe! However, when it comes to chocolate, I'm team Switzerland of course. Smile

Btw did you know that it was a Belgian who invented the saxophone? Adolphe Sax (mid 19th cent).

This was a good topic; I have a weak spot for "driving style" music anyway.

These I knew already (all very good tracks though): Peter Hammill (Sitting Targets is a favourite of mine), Traffic, Jackson Browne

These are quite cool: Alternosfera, Edwin, Nordmann, I Mother Earth

.The term "cool" doesn't really apply to Rondo Veneziano, but this is a good listen, too.

The outstanding track here is Cismienie's Same Trupy, followed by dEUS. That's two votes.

The third one to be chosen from those mentioned above... I go for Alternosfera.

^ Glad you like the dEUS track, Christian. I had their Worst Case Scenario album since a long time, when it was promoted as one of the most promising independent rock bands. However, it didn't incite me to explore more of their work, later on. Until I saw them during a festival night on a Mediterranean beach... Sonic Youth was the main act that night, and they were splendid, but for me it was actually dEUS - performing just before SY - that stole the show that night. This was when they were touring the album this track is off (Vantage Point). For me this is one of the better independent rock albums of that decade! (which maybe shows that I haven't explored much of independent rock during that time, but well...)

I think I had heard one of their tracks before and liked it, too. I definitely need to check out more of them; I like some sharp and straight indie rock as long as it doesn't sound cliched. The track ticks all the boxes.
