If I had to choose one, that would be Mr. Carpenter. Anyways, I'll choose both

John Carpenter by far. The only Guillermo del Toro film I like is Hellboy.

I didn't like the second Hellboy. I've seen El Espinazo... but it's been ages ago so I don't remember it well. I haven't seen Cronos. Maybe I should fix that, I think those early ones might be better than his later films. Speaking of Hellboy, btw, have you read the comics? Or other Mike Mignola stuff? I'll recommend them very highly.

^ No, I haven't. Thank you for the recommendation.
Indeed, I prefer del Toro's earlier stuff too. I'll watch Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars soon. Hope I'll like it. |

^ I don't "have to" choose one, as I put a "both" option there.

Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone are actually splendid movies, and not just horror flicks.

Carpenter. However, Guillermo del Toro isn't done...yet.
I wish Hollywood would get out of del Toro's way, so he could direct his vision of Lovecraft's " At The Mountains of Madness". I know it would be a horror Masterpiece.
