Hi, This is my first post on this site - Hi there ! I am posting to promote a gig on 19th October by my band BrainSalad. We are an ELP ( Emerson Lake and Palmer ) tribute band. Full details of the history of the band, our set list , pictures and music downloads are available from our website at www.elptribute.co.uk. We play a very full set, including all the old favourites like Tarkus, Karn Evil 9 , Pictures at an Exhibition, and some more less known but equally exciting numbers like Endless Enigma and Take a Pebble. This gig is at the Limelight Club , Crewe - the web site is http://www.crewe-limelight.co.uk/ , where you will find full details of the venue and directions etc. There is a small nominal charge to enter the club ( one pound ? ) , but the gig itself is free. Please email us on [email protected] if you have any queries. Thanks ! Graham Sherwood

Graham - I've heard good things about the band, but I have a problem...
No genuine Hammond on stage! For shame |

Hi Jim, Yeah, I have received some comment on this in the past , both positive and negative. I used to own a Hammond L , and are well aware of the good and bad sides of gigging with one. However I just couldnt play the main ELP tunes on it - it didnt sound right for me , and didnt have big enough keyboards. The option of buying and gigging with a B or C is not realistic for me. ( Weight / money / storage etc). Now if I won the lottery ! At the end of the day its the music that counts. So I emptied my piggy bank and bought a Korg BX3 on the basis that the majority of professionals use one ( including KE ! ). Its not a Hammond, but it sure does cut some mustard ! Close your eyes and you are almost there ...... Hope to see you at the gig ! Regards, Graham

Graham, will there be any chance that you could play at The Flower Pot in Derby. A heck of a lot of tribute bands play here, and it would be marvellous if you could appear here.. I post below the website of the venue. http://hometown.aol.com/rawpromo/rawpromohomepage.html

Hi Saw the small piece in Northwich Guardian about the gig and hope to come along. Played BSS last night to get me in the spirit. If you are local to Northwich and need help with anything then I'm happy to :)
ps, I tried the movie clips on your web site but they crashed my internet connection |

Hi Harlequin, Yes , we are a Northwich based band ( Up the Vics ! ) For this gig we are sorted out for moving gear thanks. It all gets mechanical moving stuff around , and the Limelight has superb access so we can move in and out without too much bother. HOWEVER if you are interested in doing a bit of roadie ing for us, for future gigs we would be VERY INTERESTED ! Please contact us via the band email or nab one of us at the gig if you are up for it. Thank you ! Graham

Well, it may only have been a Drive UK white van parked out the back of the Limelight as opposed to three, forty foot trucks, but this band delivered a superb show. The set comprised a full range of material from all the early albums with paricular highlights for me being Pictures and KE9 pt 1 and 3. Musicianship was superb, and despite Jim Garten's reservations, the keyboards sounded very authentic, even if they were not Hammonds and Moogs. The use of the bass through a wah pedal on Pictures added to the perfect sound. We even had some onstage antics from Graham the keyboard player with a ribbon controller and a beat up organ. It was a real shame that the sequencer (I presume it was that) wouldnt kick in for the finale of KE9 pt3. That must have been a real blow for Graham as it spoilt what would have been a triumphant exit prior to the encore. Still, we did get the vocoded "bridge computer" speaking. Who was that, and can I do it next time . Great show lads, and all for a quid!

Hi Harlequin, Glad you enjoyed the show. We seemed to have a few hitches the other night, the sequencer not working probably being the most obvious. I have grown to accept that playing stuff as complex as this, there will be a few bum notes , and a few technical hitches. Its all part of the ride. Of course the game is to minimise them , but when it happens , smile and move on ..... Hi Snowdog, We are actively looking for more gigs, so if you can reccomend anywhere in Swansea that is suitable, (or even better reccomend us to the gig as well !!!!! ) we would be very grateful. In the past we have found reccomendations the best way to get new gigs. Thanks, Graham

Hi Horza, Would love to 'do' Scotland, Ian ( bass ) and I have Scottish roots and my wife is from Fife, and not only that I believe there to be a strong ELP fan base north of the border. Its a matter of finding a suitable venue, with an arrangement that would at least cover costs. No one of us are professional musicians, so we are not looking make loads of money doing this - I would be very surprised if I ever pay off my keyboards However we wont play at a loss , or pay to play, which I think is only fair. So Horza old chap - If you know a suitable prog friendly venue - please let us know, and even better, tell them about us , and we will try and do the rest ! Thanks, Graham |

Thanks Harlequin, I will check it out. Might have to cut down on the amount of gear we use, other wise there might be more band than audience ! Still , nothing wrong with an 'intimate' gig , especially if its local. Thanks, Graham |
