Not much discussion about Pat here. That's why I started this thread.
Oh, well then... make a poll, make a top ten... use your imagination! LOL

I've always been surprised by that, as well! Such a consummate professional who has given SO MUCH to music throughout his career--and explored so many genres, styles, and traditions. A true virtuoso of his craft who always is attracted to and gathers around him the best musicians. Sadly under-appreciated in the prog world. (I wonder if many prog fans just plain discount the J-R/Fusion bands--think them outside the fold...)

One friend of mine who has 'ok' music tastes listened to some Metheny that i put on- all was going well until one of his solos using a guitar synth that has that 'harmonica like Stevie Wonder' (not my words!) sound where this friend screwed up his face and said 'ughh.. no more lift music please'.. I was rather perplexed as i'd never even though of it in that way.. it was one of the Geffen era band albums but i cant remember which one. Having heard most of his albums over the years i can say he's possibly one of the most diverse musicians i know but i think if all you've heard is those couple of (very popular) later 80's Geffen lps you might think he's a bit of a 'coffee table jazz' musician..

I think I got into Pat just before Offramp and saw him on that tour. Still have the t-shirt. Travels is a really good intro live album. Saw him on that tour and another shirt which I have pretty much worn out so I guess you could say I am a fan.
Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...

What was Metheney's collaboration with David Bowie?
