It can be amusing to note how much a song can change over the years. Here are four different variations on a traditional folk ballad.
First, here's the well-known hit from 1963. Inez and Charlie Foxx: "Mockingbird" Now, an earlier and very different version of the same song from 1955. Bo Diddley: "Bo Diddley" http://youtube.com/watch?v=3jrIK7YB0tE Then, still earlier and again quite different, from 1952. Red Saunders and his Orchestra with Dolores Hawkins and the Hambone Kids: "Hambone" http://youtube.com/watch?v=5y20uTYHwNs And finally, the original -- very old and of unknown origin. "Hush, Little Baby" http://youtube.com/watch?v=NOCx4D7KoGo How's that for evolution? |
