and there are the first two confirmations for the lineup of next year: Moon Safari Kayak ----------------------- Moon Safari is a progressive rock band formed in Sweden. With five studio releases to date and touring across Europe, Japan and North America they have positioned themselves as one of the leading acts in 21th century progressive music. Most noteworthy is their performance in 2016 at the Royal Albert Hall supporting legendary British supergroup Yes. While Moon Safari’s music is often categorised as classic progressive rock, with romantic storylines and long, dramatic, melody-driven instrumental passages, it is their multi-layered vocal arrangements in the style of American vocal groups the Hi- Los and Singers Unlimited that set them apart from other bands in the genre. With three sons of an award-winning choir conductor in the band, and a shared love within Moon Safari for bands like the Beatles and Jellyfish, their focus on vocals and the desire for their songs to have an underlying accessible pop structure came natural from the start. This trait, easily lost within progressive music in general, is key to their success and remains at the core of the band’s musical philosophy. The band will perform on sunday, 19th July 2020. ----------------------------------------------------- Kayak was founded in 1972 by keyboardist/composer Ton Scherpenzeel and drummer/composer Pim Koopman, along with lead singer Max Werner, guitarist Johan sl*g.r and bass player Cees van Leeuwen. In the beginning critics often compared the band to contemporaries like Yes and Focus, but the band quickly developed their own style of symphonic rock that, although almost each album contained one or more ‘epics’, was concentrating on songs rather than elaborate solos and long instrumental passages. Throughout the years Kayak has seen many changes in the line-up. Ton Scherpenzeel is now the only remaining original member and leader of the band. Kayak enjoyed a successful period in the late 70ies and early eighties. After 1981, there was no band activity until 1999, when Scherpenzeel and Koopman decided to restart the band. This second period was marked by a new explosion of creativity. Kayak’s output even exceeded their first period. In 2009 disaster struck when Koopman died of heart failure in the middle of their ‘Letters from Utopia’ tour. In 2011 the band overcame this big loss and returned to the stage and a new album. A couple of years later Kayak completed their rock opera trilogy ‘Merlin’, ‘Nostradamus'(2CD) and ‘Cleopatra'(2CD). When lead singers Cindy Oudshoorn and Edward Reekers left the band shortly after, Scherpenzeel realized he had to completely renew the line up in order to maintain his creativity as well as keep the band going. Now, a reborn Kayak once again proves that the band’s name- though chosen randomly back in 1972- is as appropriate as ever. Just when everyone expects the boat to go under, it miraculously resurfaces and sails on. The new album ‘Seventeen’ was released in January 2018. Many raving reviews followed the release. The album hit the dutch album charts at no 6 and the was no 1 at the dutch vinyl charts. The band played many shows after the release, captivating the audiences. The reborn band will perform on Saturday, 18th July 2020. |

Another announcement already ... Pure Reason Revolution Pure Reason Revolution (PRR) is a British progressive alternative rock group formed in 2003. They gained a lot of success with their first album “The Dark Third” in 2006. After 2 other albums the band however decide to split in 2011. After all these years the band leaders Jon Courtney and Chloë Alper decided it would be a great idea to get back together for a live show (in June 2019 at the Midsummer Prog festival in the Netherlands). While working on this show it became clear that the creativity and chemistry was still there. The performance at the festival was spectacular. They comment: “The festival crowd reaction was incredible. We were touched that people had travelled from Canada, Russia, Italy, Spain, UK and many more countries. The tracks are exciting as ever to play. It’s encouraging to see the material still has relevance & connects.” Pure Reason Revolution is back! Currently the band are working on a brand new studio album, and have signed to InsideOutMusic for its release in 2020. Jon Courtney comments: “We’re currently working on material for the new album which returns to a more progressive sound & it’s nice to remind ourselves of the genesis of PRR” while Chloë adds: “it’s sounding spectacular. The band will perform on Friday, 17th July 2020. |

It must be extremely doubtful that Kayak will be performing given the recent announcement of Ton Scherpenzeel's serious health issues.

after some time off, here are more announcements and all of them are playing on Saturday. Thanks Essexboy for beating me with Ayreon ;)
Ayreon Pendragon Cheeto's Magazine -------------------------------------- INTO THE ELECTRIC CASTLE – A Space Opera’ LIVE ON STAGE AYREON is a progressive rock project by Dutch songwriter, singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Ayreon’s albums contain complex storylines featuring a lot of different characters. Their concept albums are critically acclaimed and very popular among fans. The music brings together classic progressive rock instruments with more classical or folk instruments. The album ‘Into the Electric Castle’, originally released in 1998, has made a big impact in the progressive and symphonic rock/metal scene and is considered by many to be a classic album in the genre. To celebrate the album’s 20th anniversary it’s been completely re-mixed, re-mastered and re-released with exclusive limited edition packaging. The re-release of this classic album made this the perfect moment to create a live show. Ayreon played four shows at the 013 venue in Tilburg (The Netherlands) in September 2019 and the four shows were sold out within 48 hours and brought fans together from 64 different countries! After Tilburg this year, Ayreon will add another exciting chapter to its live history – headlining the Night Of The Prog Festival 2020! Arjen Lucassen says: “I’ve been a prog lover my entire life, so headlining Night of the Prog festival with Ayreon feels really special! Many of my favorite bands have played there, and it will be an honor for us to perform on the same stage. Ayreon very rarely performs live, so this will be an exclusive show — your only chance to see Ayreon live in 2020. We’ll be playing the entire Electric Castle album, like we did in September 2019 in Holland. Plus some extras… if you’re up for it!” Ayreon mastermind Arjen Lucassen and keyboardist Joost van den Broek have gathered nearly the entire original cast of Into the Electric Castle and several special guests to perform Ayreon’s ‘space opera’ in its entirety as a live show on the Loreley at NIGHT OF THE PROG 2020. It will be a world exclusive show in 2020! Visitors can expect a massive, state-of-the-art live production with a unique decor, visuals and stage effects. While the 2017 ’Ayreon Universe’ show was a bombastic, full-tilt rock show, musically the ‘Into the Electric Castle’ show will be more dynamic, atmospheric and versatile, translating the original album in the most authentic way possible. This AYREON show will be the perfect match for the UNSECO world heritage festival site on the Loreley! Arjen about the chance and challenge to play at Night Of The Prog: “When Night of the Prog first invited us we thought it would be impossible to bring our huge production with no less than 25 musicians to the festival stage. But hey… challenge accepted! Our giant metal castle is too big to take with us, but we will have a big LED screen with amazing visuals. And most of all I’m happy to say we’ll be bringing most of the original musicians from the album! Looking forward to seeing all you Ayreon fans there (and secretly hoping to convert any unbelievers)!” Alongside Arjen Lucassen himself, who will be singing his original album role of ‘the Hippie’, there will be plenty of singers and instrumentalists sharing the stage: Original cast: Anneke van Giersbergen (VUUR), Damian Wilson, Thijs van Leer (Focus), Ed Warby (Ayreon), Edward Reekers (ex-Kayak), Edwin Balogh, George Oosthoek (ex-Orphanage). Special guests: Simone Simons (Epica), Mark Jansen (Mayan), John Jaycee Cuijpers (Praying Mantis), Marcela Bovio (Mayan), Dianne van Giersbergen (Ex Libris), Jan Willem Ketelaars (Knight Area) …plus an extra special guest ‘to be announced’. Instrumentalists: Johan van Stratum (VUUR), Joost van den Broek (After Forever), Marcel Singor (Kayak), Ferry Duijsens (VUUR), Bob Wijtsma (Ex Libris), Ben Mathot, Jurriaan Westerveld. “It’s a huge challenge, both with respect to the music and the production”, says lead producer Joost van den Broek, “but with the experience we’ve gathered by doing the Universe and festival shows and the amazing team we have, I’m sure we’re ready to take this next step in bringing ‘Into the Electric Castle’ to the stage. We are aiming for the most authentic and very detailed translation of the entire album, staying true to the original vibe, dynamics and sound, plus adding some extras here and there. It will be a big pleasure to share the stage with all these excellent musicians, playing this classic prog-rock opus live for Ayreon’s fans!” AYREON will headline and perform in the later evening on Saturday, 18th July 2020. ------------------------------ PENDRAGON are a neo-prog band formed in the UK in the late 70ies. The band had a few personnel changes, but their lineup has been more or less stable since he mid-eighties. Over the years, the band has built up an impressive fanbase, especially in Europe. Pendragon are probably best known for their “Masquerade Overture” album (1996) and have recently celebrated their 40th Anniversary with sold out European shows and a 5 disc commemorative book. Pendragon will be releasing a brand new studio album called “Love Over Fear” in February 2020. The album goes back to the classic sound of the 90’s Pendragon that so many of their fans dearly loved. Pendragon will undertake a worldwide tour including UK, Europe, Canada, Cruise To The Edge, South America. The tour starts in late Feb 2020 in the UK and finishes with their NIGHT OF THE PROG show. Nick Barrett says: “It’s truly an honor to return to probably the best prog festival in the world, as a co headline on Saturday night at Night Of The Progs, Loreley. We cannot wait to play people our new album Love Over Fear with the sun going down…should be utter magic!” The band will perform in the evening on Saturday, 18th July 2020. ------------------------------ Cheeto’s Magazine are a progressive rock ensemble from Barcelona. Bearing open-mindedness as their flag, the band brings together classic prog tradition and forward-looking paths under a colorful, humerous and joyful outlook that is embodied in their meticulous compositions, surrealistic imagery and eccentric live appearances. “Amazingous”, their sophomore record, takes what was introduced in their debut album “Boiling Fowls” (2014) and takes it to a higher level. With a bold production and rock-solid songwriting, the album is deliberately fearless in its mixture of symphonic passages, vocal shenanigans, spot-on solos and electronic strokes, delivering a tracklist where glimpses of Spock’s Beard, Faith No More, Nintendo 64 soundtracks, Frank Zappa and Justice can be found altogether. Progspere and Prog UK have also praised the band. The band will perform on Saturday, 18th July 2020. |

three more announcements came in the meantime ...
RPWL (Germany) Pavlov's Dog (US) Soulsplitter (Germany) -------------------------------------- RPWL look back at a long history. The progressive rock band from Germany was formed in 1997 by Yogi Lang, Kalle Wallner, Chris Postl and Phil Paul Risettio as a Pink Floyd tribute band, but they quickly wrote and recorded their own music. They have released ten studio albums so far and they have worked with other artists as well, both with RPWL (such as Ray Wilson as guest vocalist) and also in the frame of some of their solo projects (i.e. John Jowitt for Blind Ego or Pink Floyd bassist Guy Pratt within Yogi Lang’s own solo project). Also, their first album God Has Failed will celebrate its 20th anniversary this fall so we can expect some special songs from the early phase of the band. RPWL will co-headline on Sunday, 19th July 2020. -------------------------------------- Pavlov’s Dog is a progressive rock group with a decades-long history of musical storytelling behind the unmistakable voice of David Surkamp. Formed in 1972 by Surkamp and current drummer Mike Safron, Pavlov’s Dog released their debut album “Pampered Menial” in 1974. The album, containing the familiar hits “Julia” and “Song Dance,” proved both musically and commercial successful, and led to the subsequent 1975 release “At the Sound of the Bell,” featuring a heavy-hitting lineup of musicians that included drummer Bill Bruford (King Crimson, Yes) and saxophone giant Michael Brecker. A hiatus followed the recording of the group’s third album (later released as “Has Anyone Here Seen Siegfried?”) until the group reformed under the direction of Surkamp and original mellotronist Doug Rayburn on bass, leading to the 1990 release of “Lost in America.” In 2004, David, together with wife and vocalist Sara Surkamp, revived the group with “Pampered Menial” drummer Mike Safron, a revival which has propelled Pavlov’s Dog to the present day. David and Sara Surkamp recorded and released the solo album “Dancing on the Edge of a Teacup” in 2007. Then, with the current lineup in place, 2010 saw the much-anticipated release of “Echo & Boo,” the first Pavlov’s Dog album release in 20 years. Shortly thereafter, a set of recorded takes from their 2009 European tour were released in Pavlov’s Dog’s first live album, “Live and Unleashed.” After 4 decades, Pavlov’s Dog continues to make beautiful music today. The band will present a different set on the Loreley (compared to recent shows). There will be songs from the latest album and also a best-of from their classic albums „Pampered Menial“ and „At The Sound Of The Bell“. And we can expect a little surprise or two. Pavlov’s Dog will perform on Friday, 17th July 2020 -------------------------------------- „I can’t help but award this ambitious work of art with the highest rating. One can only guess what these talented artists have in store for us in the years to come. […] For now, all we can do is marvel at the sheer awesomeness of ‘Salutogenesis’.“ THE PROGSPACE – 5/5 SOULSPLITTER is a Germany-based music and arts collective founded by the musicians Fenix Gayed (drums), Simon Kramer (guitars), Daniel Gräupner (keys) and Felix Jacobs (bass). The band started writing on their debut record SALUTOGENESIS in 2015, eager to melt their musical backgrounds and influences into a new and epic sound. Inspired by 1970s Progressive Rock as well as modern Metal sounds, Jazz harmonies and intricate classical compositions of Late Romanticism, their sound evokes reminiscences of STEVEN WILSON and DREAM THEATER as well as PINK FLOYD or EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER. SALUTOGENESIS consists of eight songs which explore a coherent story, telling a tale of love and death, of meaning and awareness. For the album production, SOULSPLITTER acquired the support of over 50 individuals – vocalists, instrumentalists, producers and designers – to create a truly unique and timeless masterpiece that reaches beyond the possibilities of a mere band record. During the show you can be excited for a 60-minute trip into the world of SALUTOGENESIS: take part in a journey through the depths of doubt and pain into ultimately realising one’s purpose! SOULSPLITTER’s stage performance aims to merge the realms of fantasy and reality in an effort to support everyone’s own SALUTOGENESIS – their very own path to health and success in life. SOULSPLITTER will be the festival opener on Friday, 17th July 2020 |

another announcement and unfortunately a cancellation as Kayak now officially will not play at the festival.
Voyager IV (Germany) -------------------------------------------- “Really enjoyed the new album! Some very bold and adventurous avenues taken with Modest Mussorgsky. I always enjoy listening to someone’s interpretations of otherwise well-known themes. I like that fact that you incorporated those ideas in your own way and varied them enough to make it your own. Well done!” Marc Bonilla (recorded 4 albums with Keith Emerson) The classic piano-cycle “Pictures At An Exhibition” by Modest Mussorgsky from 1874 was only the start of an exciting music journey. VOYAGER IV then just stop along the way at 70ies supergroup ELP (Emerson, Lake & Palmer), who reworked three of Mussorgsky’s “pictures” for their album “Pictures At An Exhibition” back in 1971. Arriving in the 21st century, those three and further five of the “pictures” can be found on VOYAGER IV’s most recent album and live shows, reworked with vocals and virtuous instrumentation. London based producer Jon Caffrey is responsible for the fresh sound design. They have a stunning light show, special and rarely seen instruments and they create a mix of cosmic space rock sounds and vocal arrangements plus instrumental passages. VOYAGER IV are one of the most exciting cross-over projects within the prog genre. Singer and songwriter Johannes Kuchta also has a stunning voice, that reminds fans of Peter Gabriel, Greg Lake, Phil Collins or Fish. VOYAGER IV will perform on Sunday, 19th July 2020 -------------------------------------------- Official Statement from KAYAK: The performances that Kayak had planned for the summer of 2020 (like the festivals Night of the Prog at Loreley and Midsummer Prog in Valkenburg) have been cancelled. Keyboardist/composer Ton Scherpenzeel, who had a heart attack last October has indicated he isn’t ready yet. ‘I am doing okay,” Ton says, “But I do not feel capable to give full power again. And for me, with Kayak it’s all or nothing. Can’t do it with the brakes on. And I am not going to force myself and stipulate a deadline now. No one’s going to benefit from that, least of all me.” The release of the live album KAYAK LIVE 2019, originally set for December, has now been planned for this spring. More news will follow soon. |

three more announcements in the last days ... it's shaping ...
Sentryturn (Germany) Jadis (UK) Infringement (Norway) -------------------- A progressive metal band, but at the same time radio friendly? Doesn’t exist in Germany? Now it does! Complex, energy-driven and catchy riffs, combined with a distinctive voice, that sings hooklines on progressive rhythms: That’s how SENTRYTURN have created a special album, which is also their first. Some of the musicians got to now each other during school days, but the final line-up came together in 2014. After finve years of experimenting and fiddling about, the band has now released the album “Upon A Mess” late last year. The combination of melancholy and catchy singing and a very different Djent sound makes this band different from others. The album offers unique guitar tuning, bombastic vocal arrangements and remarkable grooves with catchy harmonies. After an extensive year, the package is now complete: The new album was produced at mixberlin and the artwork matches the musis perfectly. There is also a music video and all that is waiting to be discovered by prog fans. SENTRYTURN will be the opener on Saturday, 18th July 2020 -------------- JADIS are a band hailing from the south of England and were formed in the 80ies. They fall into the category Progressive Rock/ Neo Prog / Classic Rock, although they have their own distinctive sound comprising crunching guitar riffs, melodic leads and solos, dramatic soundscapes, vocal harmonies as well as playing contrasting pastural acoustic pieces with flute, 12 string guitar and piano. Like many other band, Jadis also had some changes in their line-up. But now, original keyboard player Martin Orford (from the “More Than Meets the Eye” and “Across The Water” times) is back with the band and they sound better than ever. Jadis have released no less than ten studio albums until today, and additionally two live albums and several collections. JADIS will perform on Saturday, 18th July 2020 ------------------ Oslo-based band INFRINGEMENT came together in 2015, when Stig André Clason, Kristoffer Utby, and Hans Andreas Brandal all met for the first time. In springtime 2016, Espen Larsen joined on bass and they decided to write a concept album, “Transition”. Released in May of 2017, it follows the development of a local society through the last couple of centuries. Focusing on one family across different generations, seen through the eyes of an anthropomorphic house. To complete the lineup, Bård Thorstensen (keys) joined the band for the live shows and hasn’t left since. INFRINGEMENT has been described as playing something in between neo-progressive rock and symphonic rock while flirting with various genres throughout their debut album. They touch on big groovy parts with funky rhythms, other times they clearly visit the 70s. A mix of melodious, symphonic rock with unexpected twists and progressive bar changes. The band has been compared to the likes of Camel, Genesis, Pendragon, Arena, and IQ. After spending the last two years writing, fine-tuning and recording, INFRINGEMENT is now ready for the next chapter. “Alienism”, a large sounding, intense concept album, peeks into the mind of patients at the Gentmire Institute, an institution at the forefront of psychiatrical innovation. We get the insights of the commissioner of Lunacy himself, and through his journals, we enter the world of The Alienist. So let us all escape reality and seek comfort in our minds. Mixed and mastered by Karl Groom of THRESHOLD fame! INFRINGEMENT will be first band to perform on Sunday, 19th July 2020 |

Hi,
I know I can not make it to where you folks are ... but I sincerely hope this comes through ... and that it is a super blinding success all around. The choices and tastes for music are almost too much for a show for me ... but I would gladly die to be able to see these.
