Topic: DVDs to kill for... Posted: September 10 2005 at 21:06 |
Your favourite music DVD here...
This is really OLD news but I have to say that one of the best music DVDs I`ve got is Opeth`s: LAMENTATIONS. Live at Shepherd`s Bush Empire 2003
They `ve really captured the atmosphere on this DVD. Lamentations is for NON-Opeth fans also as the band plays all the songs from the acoustic Damnation album + Harvest from Blackwater Park - so NO DEATH vocals on the first set....You WILL CONVERT after seeing this DVD!!!!
The second set is " a bit heavier" with songs from Deliverance and Blackwater......and it really kickstarts the concert after the break...REALLY love this DVD. You get the best of BOTH worlds!
Bonus: Documentary: The making of Deliverance and Damnation!
Heaven and Hell on one DVD!
Set 1: 1h05m
Set 2: 58m
Documentary: 1h05m
Stereo, 5.1 Surround or DTS
Enjoy!
Rock ON!

Hey, maybe it's just me, but did Opeth plan their album titles around the music on the albums as a little joke:
Deliverance: considered by some to be their heaviest release
Damnation: One of the lighter Opeth releases......
But on Topic: I'd really like to have Rush in Rio or Incubus @ Red Rocks.

He-he: 10 points! Right on! Maybe it`s your brains?! I see where you are gettin at...but maybe it wasn`t a joke??!
There is so much duality in the band: Like singing REALLY DARK lyrics with harmony vocals
Or release their heaviest album at almost the same time as Damnation which shows their softer side...Heaven and hell Black or white...
Or maybe they prefer the darkness? I dunno? Where IS the Opeth FAQ?
Deliverance is definitely their heaviest release IMO
WARNING: DONT LET THIS ALBUM BE YOUR FIRST RIDE WITH OPETH

If you are after emotion- PoS BE live
Livecrime is a little lacklustre in quality- Live evolution is much better
Transatlantic live is pretty good.
One of the best I have seen for a while is Marillion Marbles live, although marillion may be a little whimpy for you.
I agree with the sentiments of Psued0 on Live Scenes

Livecrime - is great in PERFORMANCE !
Live Evolution DVD is very good quality - but Kelly Gray is on it...
Yeah I want Transatlantic - isn`t Daniel Gildenlow guest on this tour?
Be..got it.....kinda.....haven`t seen it yet......not the best qual...
Liked Marillion better with Fish...yeah a bit whimpy!
Any adwice on Fates Warning DVDs?

Yes, Gildenlow is on the transatlantic- It is quite chilling when those
high vocals enter the harmonies. He's stuck up the back, like the new
kid on the block though.
You have to get (steal?) a better copy of BE, its worth the watch.
What was wrong with Mr Gray- I thought he did a better job (playing) than the guy who is on the art of live.
No fates warning, but working on it.

I have to say...
Live in Rio by Rush
and
'Growing up live' by Peter Gabriel
Both incredible DVDs.
I was not too keen on 'Live scenes from New York', I thought the recording was a little weak, especially the sound. I much prefer the 'Live in Tokyo' effort.

No self-respecting Gentle Giant fan should be without "Giant on the
Box" - a collection of rare live material, and damn good material at
that.

I've seen the Rush in Rio DvD, and didn't find it lacking of anything at all!!!!! As a matter of fact I thought it was "totally f*ckin' awesome". (Some Rush fans in this forum will get that...) Also one of the greatest DvDs so far, IMO, is Pink Floyd's Live at Pompeii, I mean, THAT'S history right there, THAT'S art. And to wrap it up, one guilty pleasure of mine ('cause I'm not a big fan of the following bands) is watching the talented guys from DT and LTE shredding their instruments on-stage. It's even more fun if you're a musician like me.
