Hmm, in these days even THINGS like IQ are counted as progrock... So, Deep Purple must too! At least they're a marvelous band!

I dont like deep purple very much i think they where very poor song writers and i dont like their sound, Zeppelin and Sabbath where 100 times beter. Deep purple where and are overrated.  

And if they are gona be added we can yust add every other 70s classic rock band

Deep Purple is one of my favourite bands, but I do not think that they belong to ProgArchives. Yes, they have some prog moments, but they were not a prog band at all.

I think all this agonising over categories is well amusing, as I'm into Hawkwind (as you may be able to discern from my name). Are Hawkwind prog?  I've gone to gigs in the mid-80s where they were out-and-out raucous metal.  Or are they punk-pop (Quark 1977) ... etc ...

HTF do you define prog anyway? To me, it's what we used to term "heavy rock" or just "heavy", long before the term "heavy metal" reared its (motor)head - but then the term "heavy rock" obviously kicks the likes of Gong and Hillage straight into touch.

I personally don't see why Floyd, Zep and Purple can't be in the PA albums list. And if Purple are listed under Canterbury then most people will never notice them there anyway...

Addendum: I agree that the poll question is ambiguous, and that a yes or no answer is not reasonably possible...
