Both Mahavishnu Orchestra's brilliant!  The Nice's Five Bridges was not my cup of tea, I find it quite boring. The others I haven't heard.

Thanks Wigu. As for The Nice, they aren't everybody's cup of tea, but they are mine. I myself am an accomplished piano/keyboard player, with a developing classical background.

And that's basically what The Nice are, exactly.

MO is brilliant I agree.  Very orginal style and instruments at a very high level of virtuosity. The Nice: pre 70's band with a great keyboard player and average bass and drums an lousy vocals.   They did some very intovative things though if you can get past the vocals.  Emerson did all sounds pre synth with just his hammond.  The famous Rhondo started with this band where he would ride his organ and stick knives between the keys and play it upside down.

 I've always loved Emerson's antics.

As to your suggestions for Kansas and Proto-Kaw, I've been looking to get Song For America for a while, and Proto-Kaw has had my interest for a bit. Jazz-rock, also looking to start there.
My musical prog journey has gone symph, + art rock, + prog folk, + psychedelic, + prog metal, + some avant. Jazz-rock is soon up-and-coming.

Yeah, this might have been a good collection, but I think BaldJean and BaldFriede's collection might crush it.
