Topic: What Music/Media Player Do You Use on Your CPUs? Posted: January 05 2016 at 09:11 |
I'm curious what everyone uses to play or stream their music digitally. If you're not listening from your turntable or CD player, but your computer instead, what media player do you like to organize and play your music from?
I've been using iTunes for ages (version 10). It's been mighty fine for most of the things I like to do. I can organize and view songs however I want, and make playlists or anything else however I want. I prefer it to the newer versions because the newer iTunes is set up to streamline everything, not giving me the options I want for my own viewing pleasure. But iTunes has its downfalls. Though I prefer version 10, it still has its minor issues, and it does have a tendency to run slow. So what does everyone else use? I might switch players if I find another quality one, so I'm curious to hear what y'all are using. |

I use iTunes as well. Mainly because I have an iPod and iPhone that I listen to most of my music on and it works well with the last.fm scrobblers. It is such a memory hog and it runs really slow on my older computer.

I use Spotify (thick client version as the thin client version doesn't scrobble) for streaming and Windows Media Player for playing local files.

Is Winamp still going? Back in the 20th century it was without doubt the best media player around but when it became too resource-hungry to run on my pc (Winamp3?) I dumped it. Now I use Windows Media Player and iTunes (which seems to be getting progressively worse with each so-called upgrade but I have an iPhoney and an iPadi so have to have it installed). Frankly I just want something sweet and simple that just plays all the tracks from an album in the correct order without gaps between them - no bells and whistles, no playlists, no visualisations, no fancy-schmancy library functions (windows explorer is just fine for navigation, why reinvent the bloody wheel?), no genre tagging and no "rate this album" crap.

Thin client is the browser version. Thick client is a separate program that you download and install on your PC. You can use either but when I first started using Spotify the browser version didn't scrobble. I haven't checked recently if it does now, I think I will give it a try again. |

^ The browser version is still awful
On my PC I use JetAudio for music and video since 2006. It can be basic and simple to use, but also has a lot of functionalities. I use the 10 second skipping with the keyboard arrows and the A-B repeat a lot when I'm practicing a song for example. I also use it to rip CDs and convert audio files. The Android version is really nice too.

FOOBAR as I mentioned earlier - top notch SQ (ASIO thru USB to external PreAmp) All Merit goes to this Gentleman (besides Foobar2000 developpers, of course): http://tedgo.deviantart.com/art/DarkOne-v4-360862076 |

I use MusicBee as well because I like bees. It's nothing super, but then again, I have no complaints about it.
