What's your take on DP's mark II lineup's impressive reunion album Perfect Strangers?

It's a great album, when these guys got along, they made great music; it's a shame that by the time they were working on the next album, there was already friction in the band and soon after Gillan left for the second time.

Good comeback album, but a little too slick. Really enjoy House of Blue Light though.A little more raw. The DVD from the Perfect Strangers tour Australia is excellent. Just seeing Gillan and Blackmore having a great time on stage together, is worth the price of the DVD. Liked ...and the Battle Rages on also.

The "comeback" album didn't phase me much.....seemed like an attempt to break into the charts a la Whitesnake, Maiden, Metallica and other hair metal bands of the day. But, yeah, Gillan and Blackmore back together was good to see.....and the LP wasn't THAT bad; in fact, it's pretty good, but nothing on the "classics" from '69-'75.

I like to feel the suspense when you're certain you know I am there.....

So true, unfortunately. A nearly unlistenable album, which makes even the rather lacklustre Who Do We Think We Are? sound like a masterpiece.

^Absolutely right. WDWTWA is Purple's most overrated album!

As I've always said, if you've got Made in Japan, you don't really need any other DP album.

Liked it at the time but a recent re-spin was not enjoyable. There are many bands I enjoy just as much or more than back in the day, and a few I enjoy less. DP fits the latter category for me.

i disagree. I thought Purpendicular (1996) was great and also I've been pleasantly surprised with their last album Now What (2013). I even liked Abandon quite a bit (last album with Lord, and he did a great job) but I thought it was weaker than Purpendicular.

Perfect Strangers is one of my favourite DP albums. The title track is mindblowing.
