From http://prog.teamrock.com/news/2014-06-11/hackett-aims-to-surprise-himself:
Steve Hackett is refusing to rush work on his next solo album – and he's waiting to surprise himself with the creative process. But the former Genesis guitarist is still aiming to launch his first collection of new solo songs since 2011 early next year. He told interviewer Miriam Orlando: "I'm half way through. I don't know how much longer it will take me to finish it. It all depends on other projects, how fast I write – and how fast I manage to surprise myself by supplying answers to a number of questions I ask myself on a daily basis." Rumours of a Genesis reunion have re-emerged after singer Phil Collins ended his self-enforced retirement and said he'd consider being part of a new project. Hackett says: "I see them; I talk to them. We talk socially. Maybe one day we'll get married again together for five minutes. Who knows?" But he adds: "And maybe not." The guitarist releases 'Genesis Revisited: Live At The Royal Albert Hall' via InsideOut on June 30. He tours the UK in October with what's planned to be his last run of retrospective performances. Genesis Extended tour: Oct 21: Ipswich Regent Theatre Oct 22: Brighton Centre Oct 24: Nottingham Royal Concert Hall Oct 25: Glasgow Clyde Auditorium Oct 26: York Barbican Oct 28: Southend Cliffs Pavilion Oct 29: Southampton O2 Guildhall Oct 30: Cardiff St David’s Hall Nov 01: London Eventim Apollo Nov 02: Salford The Lowry Nov 03: Guildford G Live Nov 04: Birmingham Symphony Hall Steve Hackett interview:Edited by yam yam - June 11 2014 at 13:44 |

Wish Hackett reunites for new album also with Spectral Mornings/Defector-era musicians - his brother John, Pete Hicks, Nick Magnus (who is with his solo-album currently reviving spirit of this era), in addition to Rob Townsend, Gary O'Toole, Nick Beggs, Roger King. That would be ultimate line-up. And cameo performance by Chris Thompson and Steve Walsh would be nice:)

I may be alone in this but I'm still getting over the quite enjoyable Squackett album.

How is Hicks’ voice now? I think he did a very good job on Spectral Mornings and Defector, and he was also good live (though he was a bit bald ). |

A complete performance of the Lamb with the original band would be more than awesome. (dreaming....)

Yeah, I would be surprised if any Genesis reunion with Gabriel happens with the exception of WOMAD in the 80s. I think honestly that Gabriel is done with that part of his career and, from the interviews I've seen, he does seem grateful for that part of his career, but he's not the type of musician to revisit something simply for nostalgic reasons.

As for the new Hackett album, I'm always ready for a new one from one of the masters.

Hackett is very prolific! After hearing and seeing the excellent Genesis Revisted tour (both on record and in real life) I must say that it couldn't be bettered by any reunion. Hackett's band playing these classic songs is really the best thing. |

And he just hasn't included any dates for Latin America... I was really expecting to see him with this Genesis tour... but it seems I'll just end up missing it.

Gabriel has said he'd like to do Lamb and Supper's Ready---but says he didn't think he could sing that high anymore as his voice has changed--which I think is true---probably never happenhope Hackett's new album takes a fresh new direction---and if he does a third Genesis Revisited album--it should be songs after he left the group and do them as he would have if he was still in the band Like "Burning Rope" with a Hackett take on guitar parts

A Genesis Revisited 3 is not impossible. They have recently included songs in their live set that were not on Genesis Revisited 1 or 2. When I saw them in Copenhagen, they played The Knife for example, which I loved! (But I don't think he would do any post-Hackett-era songs.) What about Collins, Rutherford, and Banks making another album together, perhaps "And Then They Were Three ... Again" with Hackett guesting

^My first thought before I had time to process the information, was "who is the old fat woman standing next to Steve?" Oops.

What's the relevance of this picture here, is Squire guesting on the upcoming Hackett album?

Oh, that's promising then. I didn't much like the Squackett album, but I liked Squire's participation on Out Of The Tunnel's Mouth

Yeah, what is it with Hackett that whenever he does a group thing with a member of Yes, he ends up putting out a slick AOR album? First with GTR and then with Squackett. Although I do have to say Squackett > GTR. |
