Topic: Yes blows out another vocalist....again!! Posted: June 02 2014 at 19:28 |
Yeesh!! Davison reports on some type of vocal chord problems (throat infection?)....
Hello everyone, I wish to express my sincere gratitude for all your thoughtful well wishes. I'm definitely feeling the love! My spirits are high and I'm doing alright as I continue to take it day by day. Mumu is taking excellent care of me. The band, management, and crew are all supportive and optimistic. My deepest apologies to all the fans that have been and perhaps will be greatly inconvenienced by my condition. I'm really very sorry! Warmest regards, Jon Time for everyone to review this video again, it was strangely prescient!

Uh oh!
Are they on tour at the moment? I'm assuming yes from the `inconvenience' he talks about.
Well, hopefully he's back up and running before the new album hits! ALthough I prefer Benoit, I'd like to see more than one album with Jon D on lead before he's shipped off!

Notice that the quote the OP posted is from May 29th. Yes had to abort a concert in Leipzig on that date because Jon Davison had a throat infection and was unable to continue. After a day to recover (the band had a day off planned into their tour anyway), Yes was ready to go in Prague and judging by reviews JD did just fine.
This is a minor (and very normal) problem compared to the serious respiratory issues which plagued JA and BD in recent years. These things happen. One truncated show in nearly three years is no big deal. I think JD is just fine.

Jon Davison is recovering from a throat infection. He's been doing a stellar job with Yes and judging from the first piece of music briefly released from the forthcoming album They are sounding like a refreshed reinvigorated band. JD has his own voice and his own individual vibe both of which just happen to be a fit for Yes. It's going to be very interesting to see the reaction to this new album. Some may be very pleasantly surprised. There could never be another Jon Anderson but that does not necessarily mean that the band cannot continue to produce valid music without this great man. There are also other incredibly talented figures who have their own artistic voice which may be different but equally as considerable.

Google translation:
No alternative dates for Comprehensive Yes concert in Leipzig
Despite intensive efforts of all involved could be found for this because of voice problems of singers Jon Davison broken Yes concert on May 28 no timely alternative date. Yes, and the organizers are very sorry that there will be no replayed the presence of progressive rock stalwarts in Leipzig.
Purchased tickets can be returned to the ticket offices, the ticket price will be refunded. -----------
I dunno....I think Davison may be pushing his range. I think they should have recruited a woman vocalist, personally, and renamed the band something else.

Whilst I love most of what Yes does, this vocalist business is a bit of a tired joke. Either bite the bullet and get Jon Anderson back, or pack it in.......
.........stop trying (and inevitably failing........)

Maybe Yes vocalists should try singing in a lower register...

Hmm, he didn't seem to be having any problems with the range at the recent Southend gig, I was quite impressed with how well he reached the higher notes, but some of these songs must be a strain on a vocalist.
Having said that, it could just be a throat infection that a lot of people get.

Yes have become a business machine who only care about the money. I saw them last summer and it was one of the worst show I ever saw. The only member worth focusing on was Jon Davison. At 100+ $ per tickets you could at least expect them to play their songs (which they slowed down as hell) without errors. That was not the case. White can't handle a beat and Downes cannot play something if it's not in 4/4. And do not even think to buy a tshirt from the tour, they sell it at 40+$ so it's ridiculous.

^ endorsed wholeheartedly and it's been the case for a very long time. If this gang of new age pensioners had a vestige of integrity in their fossilized hippy souls they would change their name to "what was the question again?'

meh. In the pre-internet world, we wouldn't even know about any of this stuff until we showed up at Madison Square Garden and the Buggles were on stage.
