Thought I should post something here as I signed up on the site a couple of months back and have taken to submitting the odd review or three, there's nothing like seeing your own handiwork in print (or on-line!) So if you read my drivel you can at least know something about the tastes of the person behind it.

This looks a good site and I'm pleased to find I'm not the only BOF still around - there are new proggers too!

I was (am) very big into Yes, my all time favourite album being Close to the Edge - sorry if that's unoriginal, but it had a huge effect on me at the time; I couldn't understand it, it was so different to anything else I'd ever heard. I saw Yes (& Rick Wakeman solo) a few times in the late 70's and again last year. I also like King Crimson mainly Larks Tongues - Red era; as time has gone on I've really got into Pink Floyd (used not to really like them); and  I'm a real admirer of Bill Bruford, he has a very distinctive sound and seems to constantly move on to doing new things. Moving slightly out of what I'd call mainstream prog, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Miles Davis and Frank Zappa; moving out of prog completely I do like Steely Dan/Donald Fagen; Keith Jarrett; and I was a big Zep fan. So then a bit of a mix!

Before I sound like I'm just reeling off old bands I want to mention the Flaming Lips - anyone else heard them? -  I bought two of their albums recently (Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, and The Soft Bullettin) and they've impressed me because they defy easy categorisation, moving from deceptively simple pop tunes to bizzare electronic instrumentals. Perhaps that's a topic on its own - if Weather Report are considered prog why not the Flaming Lips?

Anyhow will be pleased to hear from anyone that wishes to comment on my tastes or otherwise!

Howdy yerself. Sounds like you have a broad taste

Sounds like you've got some interesting input too, 'cause I don't know the Flaming Lips.

You've come to the right forum. Welcome!
