I have been looking for new music for a while and I haven't really found much recently except for Mago De Oz. I'm going to list my favorite bands/albums and maybe you guys can recommend some similar stuff that I should check out. So heres my list:

Dream Theater (my favorite by far)

Genesis (I own Foxtrot and I like the song Cinema Show, I need recommendations for my next step in Genesis-dom)

Rush (I own 2112 and The Spirit of Radio (greatest hits), I also need recommendations here)

Symphony X

Pain of Salvation

Emerson, Lake and Palmer (I like the few songs I downloaded)

Yes (I own The Yes Album, I like Starship Trooper the best, also need recommendations here) (I downloaded Machine Messiah and it is so awesome)

Transatlantic

King Crimson (I like 21st Century...so maybe I should get that album?)

Mago De Oz (I really like the song Finisterra so I'm probably going to purchase that album)

---------

Anything you think I am missing, just tell me :) Thanks for your help.

My recommendation on Rush and Genesis, the albums I like best for each and in decreasing order:

Genesis: Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, Wind and Wuthering, Foxtrot, Trick of the Tail, Selling England by the Pound, all are safe bets.

Rush: Moving Pictures, 2112, Caress of Steel, Hemispheres, A Farewell to Kings

Following on the Rush, Genesis, Yes, ELP vein, you need to check out bands like: Camel, Marillion, IQ, Flower Kings, Arena, Eloy, Premiata Forneria Marconi, Le Orme and maybe Porcupine Tree.

Greetings

Mogens

Sir Millard Mulch.  Get his new album "How to sell the Whole F#@!ing Universe to Everybody...Once and for All!"

One time, he inturrpted a Dream Theater Concert to give a demo to Mike Portney.  About a year later, Mike bought one of Sir Millard's cd off of his website.

For ELP, I'd get Brain Salad Surgery, Pictures at an Exhibition, their self titled album, and Tarkus.

For Yes, I'd go with Relayer, Fragile, Close to the Edge and Drama.

Just to let you know, 21st Century Schizoid Man is COMPLETELY different from the rest of ITCOTCK. The rest of the album is softer, more melodic and at times, somewhat boring. If you want other King Crimson stuff, I'd go with Red or Larks' Tongues in Aspic.!-- var SymRealOnLoad; var SymRealOnUnload; function SymOnUnload() { window.open = SymWinOpen; if(SymRealOnUnload != null) SymRealOnUnload(); } function SymOnLoad() { if(SymRealOnLoad != null) SymRealOnLoad(); window.open = SymRealWinOpen; SymRealOnUnload = window.onunload; window.onunload = SymOnUnload; } SymRealOnLoad = window.onload; window.onload = SymOnLoad; //-->

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I'll be checking many of them out shortly.

Re: Progtologist - I like a lot of their side projects, I just didn't feel like listing LTE, John Petrucci, Mullmuzzler.....

You recommended bands but not albums, can you recommend some albums from:

* The Flower Kings

* Threshold

* Tool

* Andromeda

* Spock's Beard

Mike pretty much listed all the albums I would have but I would also add Aenima for Tool and Extension of the Wish for Andromeda.

I would definitely second the Kamelot suggestion, and recommend trying the new album "The Black Halo". Very awesome.
