Hey

Just thought I'd introduce myself for my first post.

I've been meaning to register on this site for months since I visit it almost daily, its a excellent place, the reviews sections is fantastic. Anyway's I'm 20 and from the UK, England, I live near Sheffield when I'm at home, and Hull when at Uni.

I've been into Prog from an early age [around 10 or 11] and got into the likes of Pink Floyd first, other favourites of mine are: Porcupine Tree, Dream Theatre, IQ, Rush [prob my favourite Prog band] Mostly Autumn, Karnataka, Threshold, Magenta, Yes and Marillion.

Anyways I hope to have an enjoyable time here, and it'll be great to talk to some fellow proggers, which are a rare breed around where I live anyway.

:)

Upps!

That'd be my fault, so I guess it'll get moved to where ever these kind of threads go, sorry bout that.

@Snow Dog - heh, I meant the reviews section, I've only ever browsed the forums briefly, which would explain my 1st [and last ;)] mistake. Cheers for the greet!

:)

So...

How about 'Favourite Prog Band' instead?

Welcome, and it is good to hear from another Brit at uni. - what are you studying?

I pretty sure Hull campus radio don't have a show which plays prog and related musics, but Loughborough Uni is more eclectic - when term starts end of September check out LCR's Alternative Alternative Show, Thursday nights from 8 pm for 3 hours:

www.LCR1350.co.uk

for the webcast (btw the show has the best listener figures). I know Leeds Uni students are starting pick up on this programme, so there slightly more into the music than you may think.

SmileWelcome pinetree -- hope you enjoy the forum, and that you have a sense of humour (you'll need it!)Wink

Enjoy the music, make some friends, have some deep convos, but don't, for goodness sake, take it all too seriously.Stern Smile

So, to start: In fifty words or less, what are your views on the legacy of the former Eastern Bloc, globalization, the censorship of music, gun control, religion, UFOs, prog metal's status as progressive art, global warming, GW Bush, Iraq, and  --  most importantly, mellotronsQuestion

Class.

Actually I do like the Porcupine Tree song 'Mellotron Stratch' ;)

@ Dick - I'm studying 'Criminology', just about to start my 2nd year, and yeah your right Hull is crap for Progressive Music, both on and off campus. There's more of an Indie scene which isn't too bad, since I like some Indie. [like Ocean Colour Scene and Paul Weller]

Still be nice if there was more Prog about. :)

As you and I have yet to to learn, Slow Dog, humour has no place on this forum.Stern Smile

As we can see, Progressive Rock is very serious business:

I'll help you

Pretend one of them is King Arthur, and Rick Wakeman is somewhere behind, I'm sure.

Don't tell me that this is not the "How to irritate people" thread
