I have been thinking about this for a long time and think this Greek artist should be on the website. His 70's discography is essentially progressive rock but cannot decide exactly where he should fit, Zappa and Tull have been his biggest influences if I recall well. Captain Beefheart also can be heard around here.

Being a Greek myself too I strongly support at least a right treatment for this great musician.His early 70's album, especially ''Ballos'' and ''Vromiko psomi'', released in 1971 and 1972 are very good examples of dramatic Psych/Prog/Folk with even some great long tracks.

I should say Prog Folk or Psychedelic Prog should be the closest comparisons to his style.Take notice guys, his music and singing is pretty impressive at moments.

Okay, i've listened to the 5 youbes in the OP. With respect to the music in videos 3 and 5, it's fine but nothing really remarkable going on. So I'll concentrate on the other three vids.
On the first we get brassy fanfares, unexpected shifts from folksy flute and bagpipes to African drums, spoken word passages, melodic sections with atonal interruptions. I agree with the OP about the Zappa feel in places. Second video, some kind of avant-classical-folk pastiche with Beefheart-like vocals.Fourth video, is this an operatic work of some sort? Lots of spoken word with sudden brass ejaculations, folksy-liturgical feel, vocal chants/chorals.
From that Wiki link I see his music is largely influenced by Macedonian folk, but it fuses it with so many other genres and is complex in structure and experimental.
I'll try to delve deeper into his discography later... perhaps when you look at his overall output Prog Folk might be the best option but 'I think the Avant Team might want to check him out first.

IMHO, his early-70s psych experiments seasoned with a flood of jazz essence and tribal accents induce me to suggest him to Krautrock. Great stuffs! Approve

I'm familiar with his work and definitely agree that the albums ''Ballos'' and ''Vromiko psomi'' have enough prog credentials to merit consideration, though his later work more falls in the realm of folk-influenced rock. I would like to add that that many Greek artists of the period were influenced by the acid folk movement, and Bob Dylan in particular, and Savvopoulos is no exception. I would like to see him here in recognition of his earlier work in whatever category he may fall. for me, the second videoclip, Mavri Thalassa shows him at his best.

It sounds to me like this would be an exciting addition to PA, and I'm kind of surprised that he didn't get in somewhere when suggested before.  I'd come across music off his off that 1972 album before -- excellent.

It was certainly passed through Prog Folk (May 2010), and they decided to pass on him...Bob (ClemofNazareth) liked the idea of having Avant consider him though. Philippe's comment in the Kraut theam thead just recently (early Feb 2013) was in a similar vein - ie that he thought that RIO would be better, but that he was fine with the addition of Dionysis Savvopoulos in krautrock too. Seems that we are just waiting on this actually being done now. Ermm

I think they be fit for PA and ... no problem for me if they're included in RIO / Avant.

I personally would be delighted to see Dionysis Savvopoulos here, in recognition of his earlier and highly influential work, though I agree that categorizing it isn't easy.
