Well the album was hyped a bit before its release.

I gotta get this. It's the only Ayreon CD I don't have

By the way has anyone heard Once and Future King? It's a Rock Opera like Ayreon does and A.A. Lucassen guests as guitar on it.

As usual with Ayreon's conceptual albums, there are great vocals (Labrie is not the most astounding here). The addition of flute and acoustic guitar is a good idea, as you have not many metal-prog that do so, and makes Ayreon closer to traditional prog-roc

The only voice that does annoy me a bit is Eric Clayton's. It sounds so over expressive. Like it's fake. And his accent annoys me. I think he should leave this kind of singing up to David Bowie.

"The Human Equation" is surely one of the best albums this year. I also like the Death Metal vocals (that's probably because I like Death Metal in general )
