of course we all know him as the guitarist of The Police, but he has been quite an accomplaished solo artitst, releasing various pop rock and instrumental albums....his instrumental work especially has definitely been in the realms of guitar ambient and jazz rock fusion.  think he even worked with Fripp on 2 albums.

i recently bought his 1990 work Charming Snakes and i love it!!! superb fusion, and i am getting ready to get Mysterious Barricades.

Any other albums i shld be trying in his ambient/fusion realm?

Yes, count me as an admirer of his work. Yeah he recorded two albums with Fripp: I Advance Masked and Bewitched. I like his solo work more than anything he's done most notably Charming Snakes and World Gone Strange.

The fusion stuff didn't grab me that much (heard Charming Snakes), though it is good.  I really love that I Advance Masked album with Fripp though - every Fripp fan should have it.  Their followup Bewitched suffers from too much synthesizer.

He was also in Soft Machine for a few months in 1968. plus he played in the 1975 Orchestral version of Tubular Bells before he joined The Police.  He's the main part of my claim that The Police are secretly Prog (along with Stewart Copeland having been in Curved Air, of course)
