Hey all - has anyone heard of the website turntable.fm?  I've been using it for almost a year now, its fantastic.  I'm generally a jamband loving guy (first concert was Rush in 94 though), but I've been experimenting with prog heavily of late.

The way turntable works is that there are five DJ tables, and people can play songs to the room (they have a large catalog, and you can also upload things to play).  Its fantastic.  Its literally like an interactive radio station.  Rooms have themes.

I've been trying to start a prog station for a while, with no luck - there doesnt seem to be a big enough prog following there yet - so I am hoping that I can make an announcement here and get something started.    I am going to start DJing there now, and hopefully some other people will join in and we can get the ball rolling.  \

I've started other rooms there that continue to live.  Help me feed my prog addiction.

I am DJ River there - and here is the link: http://turntable.fm/prog_rock_60s_70s_80s_eclectic_psychedelic_spa

This particular room is for 60s, 70s, 80, and eclectic and psychedelic prog - feel free to join in and DJ with me!

Turntable.fm is just fantastic.

Thanks!

The problem we have with Turntable.fm is that none of our non-US friends can join :(

Any reason?  Any known workaround?

Turntable can be really annoying and is FB required last time I checked. I recommend wavelength.fm, which granted is less pretty but has the same purpose without geographic or "place" restrictions.

You only need to make a username, which takes about 5 seconds.

Well, cant we have our US friends join turntable?  If we try to find a solution that fits everyone in the world, we'll be like the UN.  Helpful, but ineffective.

The problem I am seeing with wavelength.fm is that nobody is there.  The problem with that is none of our Earth friends are using it. :P

I'd really love to get some people using turntable.fm.  I'm sure that itll open up to the world eventually.

Until then, there are no other good solutions.  (turntable is such a superior product to wavelength).

Ill be at turntable trying to get this room rolling!

Right, and your reply shows that you didnt bother to read any of the previous comments, or at least understand them.

I am trying to start a persistent room that has some actual value and usefulness.

I've done it before and the room stands on its own.

So why don't we do that, but in a place that everybody can use and enjoy?

Like where, Kotro?  wavelength.fm stinks - and no-one is already using it.

Got any suggestions?  I'm open.

We used to have Listening Room, but that's gone. Never really heard of  wavelength.fm until today, took a look, don't really see what's wrong about it.

When we used to use Listening Room, we would schedule times to be on. Usually sometime after around 9 pm EST, and usually on weekends were times when we had the most people. People don't go on when they don't expect anyone to be there, I guess.

It was a joke bud, I wasn't attacking you. Wink

I'm just proposing an alternative site that everyone can use. Turntable is fine, I've used it on a number of occasions, but TBH it's not my favorite site out there. I hope I'm not threatening you somehow, because that's not my intention.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like I took it personally, and I shouldn't have responded like that.

Thanks for your response - I just felt like it was a "perfect solution fallacy" situation.  I just want to have something useful and steady out there.

As of today we've been using this:  http://www.plug.dj/progrocka/

International, stable, although limited to Youtube, Soundcloud and Turntable uploads. So far I like it very much.
