Awhile back there was a poll about directors and I was surprised that Tony Scott was not discussed much, if at all.
I'm not saying he is my "all time favorite" but a lot of his films would be on my "favorite films" list.
I'm curious to hear what some of you think about his films.

Prefer his brother's output, but I think  I will vote........dunno yet.

None jump out at me actually, although I do like several of them. Enjoyed the remake of Pelham 123.

Yeah, not a big fan here. I think he purposely choose to display all of the bang bang facets of Hollywood without any real uniqueness added to them. That said, he has directed some pretty cool action movies, but none that soar higher and reach for something audacious and original. Maybe the one time he gets close, is Man on Fire, which incidentally was where my vote went.

True Romance & Man On Fire are both good action movies (MoF got my vote), but for sheer enjoyment, I'd give Unstoppable a decent thumbs up - excellent switch-brain-off-and-enjoy-the-ride action movie (Denzil Washington & Chris Pine worked bloody well together too)

To me, it would be impossible to choose one brother over the other. Both have made movies that would be in the top ten per cent of my all-time top one hundred movies.
For example, Spy Game and Body Of Lies are two of my all-time favorite spy movies.
Clay Pidgeons and True Romance are two of my favorite "quirky" type movies.
Tony seems to work very well with Denzel Washington and Ridley seems to work very well with Russell Crowe.
Washington and Crowe are way up on my top actor list (both are in American Gangster).
 
Honorable mention:  Gene Hackman was outstanding in Crimson Tide and Enemy Of The State.

Interesting, there's only one film he directed that I really, really love (or even know and like considerably), and that's The Hunger with David Bowie, Catherine Deneuve and Susan Sarandon (which has not been mentioned).  It's my favourite vampire film (very stylish) that I can think of (guess my second fave vampire flick is Vampire's Kiss with Nick Cage, which is a great black comedy made for HBO, I think).  Alos features great music by Bauhaus, and even greater music by the likes of Delibes, Schubert, Bach.  Bought the soundtrack on CD many years ago, but it only had the classical music off it, so I also bought a Bauhaus anthology



Seriously, no love for that one?  I must be really weird.

The Hunger was one of my top six favourite movies for years (with Clockwork Orange, Brazil, O Lucky Man, The Meaning of Life and Das Boot rounding out this then youth's list, as I recall).
