Topic: Mobile Web Version of PA Posted: January 18 2012 at 08:31 |
Hi mates. I write this to request for a Mobile version of the site. Surfing the web, from smartphones is slow, difficult and really tedious.
Thanks!

Nearly every site is tedious to surf on a phone. Why should PA be an exception?
Seriously though, there have been similar requests before. It's too much work considering how few people would use it.

You can always add an RSS feed to a site you read that does have a mobile version (like myYahoo or a NewGator site).

It wouldn't be a lot of work. Creating a mobile site is mainly all about fixing widths and removing functionality.
EDIT: In fact, I believe the forum softawre already supports mobile functionality. It just needs to be turned on.

Max is on this.
I've no trouble browsing on my iPhone 4. Quick and practically identical to browsing in my laptop. Except flash...

It would be awesome if the site supported Tapatalk, but alas it does not.

I'd be willing to help if someone could point me to the right ppl to talk to. I need to cut my teeth on some web development anyway.

With the power of the latest smartphones and high speed mobile service, the m.site versions of websites are useless to me. Amazon, for example, has a severely castrated msite that just pisses me off and I use the "force desktop version" option every time. I find myself doing that for pretty much every site at this point. I'm glad PA remains unadulterated when I go there on my phone.

I at least partially disagree with this. The Amazon mobile site isn't bad for a quick browse and purchase (though I would tend to use the app in preference to either site). But a point I would make is that some full sites are easier than others to browse on a mobile device. PA is particularly annoying on a phone-sized device because of its layout. There is too much crap on the screen and if you zoom in so that the message fills the screen the text is still too small. Somebody mentioned further up that hardly anyone would use a mobile site. I think that's short-sighted given how mobile devices are starting to dominate - certainly for casual internet use. No matter how powerful mobile devices are becoming, the fact is that most outside the 10" form factor such as the original iPad and the Nexus 10 are relatively small and reading a full site on them is compromised to some degree. The ProgressiveEars site got revamped recently and I find the mobile site that it offers is actually pretty usable. Indeed, it's one of the factors that leads me to spend less and less time on PA these days.
