Summers End Dates announced

First of all, we are delighted to announce the dates of the 8th Summers End Festival, which will be held on September 28-30th 2012 at Lydney Town Hall in the Forest of Dean. This will be our fifth Summers End at Lydney!

As some of you will be aware that we have extended offers to two of the bands that could not make the Festival in 2011, K2 (featuring Spock’s Beard’s Ryo) from the USA and Sunchild from the Ukraine. We are hoping that both these bands will be with us in 2012, and we are also happy to announce the happy return of Manning.  Having played the Festival in acoustic form in 2006, the electric version of the band have gone from strength to strength and have recently released the critically acclaimed “Margarets Children”. More details at www.guymanning.com

Fused Festival News

For those of you that cannot wait for their Lydney fix, a reminder that the 2nd Fused progressive and symphonic festival, takes place at Lydney Town Hall on May 25-27th 2012.

The line up announced so far:

Stream of Passion, Andromeda, Manticora, Lost in Thought, Awake, 69 Chambers, Exoterik and Concrete Lake.

Sadly, Seventh Wonder have had to withdraw from the festival as Johan’s wife is due to give birth that weekend and he understandably wants to be there!  We wish the Liefvendahl family the best of luck and hope to see the band at Fused in 2013!

Information is also available via the Fused Facebook page at:

…and finally….

Nice to hear the September date, given the hints you put out on the Yahoo group earlier I thought it might have been in November, and since I camp that makes it a bit of a no-no for me.

First information I've heard about the Fused Festival on here since I was at Summers End this, will have to take a look at the sponsor tickets.

News of the Summers End Festival at Lydney Town Hall on September 28-30.

We are thrilled to announce the first ever UK appearance of legendary Swedish symphonic prog band Anglagard.  The band were pioneers of the 90s prog revival, with a sound drenched in the 70s, and released two terrific albums, Hybris and Epilog.  Their live shows are legendary, with three festival appearances in the USA particularly well remembered.  After reuniting briefly in 2003, 2012 will mark the long awaited release of album three and a return to live activity.  This may be the only opportunity to see the band live in the UK, so is not to be missed!

www.anglagard.net

In line with our mission to give our supporters something a little different each festival, we are also very excited to announce Knifeworld.  Led by guitarist / vocalist Kavus Torabi (The Cardiacs, North Sea Radio Orchestra, Guapo) the band meld superb pop hooks with dense arrangements which blend prog and psych into an unique recipe.  Their appearance is not to be missed!

Anglagard!!! f**king brilliant, when do the tickets go on sale?

Nice to see Leprous have been added to Fused, gutted I'm going to miss them now. I'm a bit short on cash and other than Concrete Lake, theres nothing on the bill I'd get excited about this year.

^It's certainly going to be good, but I'm very surprised Anglagard arent the headliners, I feel sorry for whoever has to follow that act.

I always think about going to this festival, but now you've booked Anglagard I have no choice. In fact I'm more than a little excited. First TAAB2 and now this.

Does anyone know if this festival usually sells out?

And is it the sort of festival where a non-prog spouse could find something to do? Or should I leave her at home?

I dont think it exactly sells out, but it does get quite full.

As for the spouse, I'll leave that for someone else to answer.

News of the Summers End Festival at Lydney Town Hall on September 28-30.

Two major announcements this time round!

First of all, our Sunday headliners will be 70s legends The Enid. The band are currently going through a resurgence which culminated in a spectacular concert at Birmingham Symphony Hall in October 2011.  While we won’t be able to fit the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra into Lydney Town Hall, we are promised something special to close the festival, and no doubt the band will deliver, as they have done for almost 40 years!

www.theenid.co.uk

By way of complete contrast, we are also very excited to welcome back to the UK, by popular demand, the spectacular Moon Safari.  Having stolen the show at Winters End in 2010, this young and exciting Swedish band has wowed audiences worldwide with their summery and supremely melodic prog, topped off by remarkable harmonies.  Their latest album “The Gettysburg Address” was recorded during their headline performance at Rosfest in 2011.

More news, including our Saturday headliner and ticket sales to follow very soon, as well as news of the full Fused line up!

We are very excited to announce our Saturday Night headliners THE CRYPTIC CLUES.  Following the band's triumphant "debut" gig at the Peel a few months ago, we are thrilled to feature their second live appearance.  The band comprises Twelfth Night founder members Brian Devoil, Clive Mitten and Andy Revell alongside long tern collaborator Mark Spencer and Galahad keyboard player Dean Baker.  Their set will consist largely of early Twelfth Night material, culled from the Live at the Target, Fact and Fiction and Live at Let Live albums.  The band are promising us that this will be their biggest gig of the year featuring a full multimedia extravaganza. With Anglagard in the Saturday special guest slot, this will make for a day not to be missed!

Tickets will go on sale in early May from www.summersend.co.uk . Look out for a specific date shortly  plus news of our last few bands!

News of the Summers End Festival at the Town Hall, Lydney 28-30 September

We are delighted to announce that Summers End weekend tickets are now on sale.  This year there will be three types of 3 day ticket:

·         "Summers End Hero" ticket - for those that really want to support the festival.  Purchasers will get a standard weekend ticket, a sponsors T-shirt plus a special "surprise" to be announced.  £100

·         Sponsors Ticket - for those that want to put a little extra into the festival.  Recipients will get a special sponsors T-shirt.  £85

·         Standard Weekend ticket: £68

Tickets are now on sale at:  www.summersend.co.uk

As the festival came close to a sell out last year, early purchasing is recommended! Day tickets will go on sale in June.

Unfortunately Sunchild continue to suffer the same visa issues that prevented them playing last year, so have decided to pull out at an early stage this year to prevent giving us the problems their late withdrawal caused us last year.  We thank them for their decency and hope to work with them in the future.  We have a very strong replacement lined up and will announce them in the next couple of days.  Expect the rest of the line up to be finalised in the next couple of weeks.

News of the Summers End Festival at the Town Hall, Lydney 28-30 September

We are very excited to announce two significant - and unusual - additions to the festival line up this time round with the announcement of Nomzamo 25 and Cyan.

Nomzamo 25 will feature Paul Menel on vocals, John Jowitt on bass and a rare appearance by former IQ keyboardist Martin Orford and will revolve around an unique performance of songs from this much-loved IQ album.  Joining them will be members of Paul's band  and several other special guests to the revealed in the next few weeks.  This will be the only full electric gig in the UK by this line up and so will never be repeated. It is therefore not to be missed. More details as we get them!

www.paulmenel.com

Cyan, as many will know,  was the pre-Magenta prog project of Rob Reed and marks the start of a new beginning for the band that recorded 3 albums in the 1990s and never played live.  Rob takes up the story:

"I was always very proud of the CYAN back catalogue with three CDs that were made when prog was really a dirty word. In March of this year we dusted down a couple of the instrumentals and played them live as part of an "Evening with Magenta" for the CRS. It was great fun. So when we were asked if we fancied playing a whole set at Summers End, it seemed a great opportunity to give some of this material its first airing live. I've commandeered Chris Fry form Magenta, alongside Dan Nelson and Steve Roberts from Godsticks to help me in this outing. Lead vocals will be provided  by Steffan Rhys Williams. Steffan has an outstanding voice and is fine all round multi instrumentalist. We plan to play a selection of material form all three albums, and maybe something new….we'll see……"

www.cyan-web.com (more content to follow in the next few weeks)

Tickets for all 3 days remain available at www.summersend.co.uk

As the festival came close to a sell out last year, early purchasing is recommended! Day tickets will go on sale later in June.
