Classical Modernists, atonalists

   I haven't really explored the modern atonal composers, excepting Ligeti
and Penderecki. Most of the their work I appreciate, excluding Ligeti's
interesting and haunting Requiem, have been from the films of
Kubrick, although I give much credit to Kubrick for shaping them with
visuals that make the pieces all the more effective.

I suppose this thread is for recommending pieces that you would find
accessible for a new listener who is mainly interested in the cream of
the crop.

	For atonal, serialism and dodecaphonism I advise you to take in consideration the works of Olivier Messiaen (his work for organ), Deserts and Popol vuh by the master Edgar Varese, every pieces by Iannis Xenakis

	Also check out Wolfgang Riehm and York Höller. I especially love Höller's opera "Der Meister und Margarita" ("The Master and Margarita"), based upon the famous novel by Mikhail Bulgakov. (The novel is highly recommended. Try to get an uncensored version though, which is not easy. Most translations are based on censored Russian versions. Amazon claims to sell an uncensored English translation, but I haven't read it yet; I only read a German translation). Edited by BaldFriede
