Topic: "World Cup" top 8- how many do you enjoy? Posted: November 21 2011 at 19:26 |
This isn't a post of criticism- kudos to Morningrise for a great poll contest. The inevitable controversy throughout the competition gave me the idea to see how many of these quarterfinalist bands people enjoy/like, since there's been a lot of people bemoaning the lack of their favourite bands. I'm not sure exactly what this achieves; maybe it'll say something about the relative obscurity of people's musical tastes compared to the PA 'mainstream'. But, I thought it could be an interesting idea anyway.
In case you've forgotten, the top 8 are Porcupine Tree, Spock's Beard, Phideaux, Marillion, Riverside, Dream Theater, Anekdoten and Opeth.

I love them all; they pretty much all show up on my favorite artist list. I like the overall turnout of the poll.

I would say "Opeth and Anekdoten." There was a time when I liked PT and DT too, but too much of their material in the last (insert duration here) has just been awful

I enjoy all the bands left to varying degrees except Anekdoten which I am not very familiar with.

I only like PT and Opeth. But I will vote for Anekdoten, Riverside and Marillion in their respective quarter finals because at least I like their oppenents even less than I like them.

Dream Theater and Anekdoten are not really my thing though neither are bad at all; I can enjoy some of their stuff.
Phideaux, PT, Spocks Beard and Opeth are very good, Riverside are excellent and Marillion are just ....well, Marillion. After IQ, the second best post 1980 prog band and an endless source of enjoyment, whether with H or Fish I care not one jot.

I'm sure I will one day. I'll add them to the list of 100 other bands I still need to check out.

I'd make them #1, even without knowing the other bands on that list.

Believe it or not, I actually have a list, with bands and albums I want to check out. I really want to check out that band Yezda Urfa, probably more so than Anekdoten.

This... though I've never cared for for PT and DT
