I hurt my back.... again. I was moving my daughters stuff to a new apartment (Flat) and tweaked my lower back yet again. Seems like the older I get the harder it is to heal. Ibuprofen, ice and Bio-freeze..... Sheesh...... It even hurts to sit at the computer.... need more pain killers (Sam Adams?). Daytime TV sucks and I can only read for so long or it's zzzzzzzz.

What about you other old progholes? What's your "Pain of Aging?"

Alimony sucks...... . At least I don't have Garten's disease

What about hair loss, oh cranially-denuded one?Wink

I picked the bike one, though Harley Thumbs Downwould be my 6th or 7th choice of bike manufacturers.

My accountant (ie, wife) has okayed a bike for next year, though.Big smile

Now, if only I could justify more new cds and stereo equipment....Cry

Ermm Aging beats the alternative though, and you take your friends with you, too!

I picked the Harley for the same reason - but would prefer a Bonnie or a Beezer if there's one going...

Hair loss is definitely my least favourite bit - went to Reading festy last year and wore a baseball cap to try to look cool. Man, did I feel a dweeb.

Sorry, I should have left the bike of choice to the old cat.

Just picked up a prescription for Carisoprodol (Generic for SOMA).

Crikey, I'm Spinnnnnnniingg.... And listening to Echolyn, yeah!!!! Tongue on The Floor

I probably missed some other choice maladies. Got my own choppers, still and I   haven't suffered from hemorrhoids either (English Professor's disease). Did I spell that write? Hmmm. So far I've had a hernia surgery, two Ulnar nerve transpositions (Both Elbows) and a penis reduction (kept getting stuck in the shoe laces) and various work related stitches, abrasions and stuff. No STD's to speak of, grew up a good Catholic boy, although I got fired from the altar boys (Thank God, the priest never got me) for sneaking a bit o' Sacramental wine.

I do have the ex-from-hell. $900.00 a month still after seven years, "bitch." Any younguns reading this "STAY SINGLE" until you are thirty something or are deemed terminal or marry an orphan with no siblings.

BTW, Petey, I'll ignore your folically challenged remark, my wife thinks it zzzexxxy. Tongue Out 2

Once you get the bike..... PCH is THE trek of choice by most afficionados. I know some great places for a bite and a tasty quaff of ale!!!

danbo,

You missed out 'flatulence'!

My sympathies re the back pain - I'm recovering from my second slipped disc and after 6 months am still suffering. Take care what you lift, because when a disc really goes, boy you've never felt pain like it! And get a decent chair with good lumbar support for sitting at your PC. I wish I'd done that years ago.

Thanks for the sympathy, but "flatulence?" Egad, man, I never thought of that as a problem, just a by-product of a good beer and a diet high in veggies.

Cut The CheeseBetcha Jim clears the dance-floor on occasion!!! Whew, get down and Funky....

Ah yes, the regrettably ubiquitous ball cap -- the poor man's toupee.

PS: All you under 30s -- I have discovered that -- believe it or not -- baseball caps can actually be removed when indoors! Shocked

At my kid's recent school assembly, many of the older dads didn't even remove their redneck toupees for the national anthem! Angry

(The younguns, having been dragged up, as opposed to brought up, sadly know no better.) Unhappy

Yes, basic manners and class are fast-disappearing things -- witness the recent nasty posts by the (presumably) young newbies in the "Best Prog Band" thread. Makes me want to quit this Forum, as a "law of the jungle, kill or be killed" sub-moronic mentality takes over.... Thumbs Down

ErmmShould be some really huge wars when this lot takes over the reins of control! Oh Brave New World, that has such wonders in it!

(I hope those guys are teens -- if they are grown men, they should be doubly ashamed!)

Backgammon and Private Messages (or just email) anyone?Confused

I'm not so old (39), but  15 years ago I was at the gym working with pulleys and the cable that carried the weight for my left arm broke, leaving all the weight (90 Kgms.) on my right arm.

When still at my 20's I had no problem and continued working out (stupid of me), but when I reached the late 30's my back started to kill me, specially in winter, the doctor said it is caused by that accident and age, if I add that pain to a pitcher's elbow (also thanks to that same accident), growing old is a pain in the a$$ or most exactly in the arm and back.

Well I´ve had both Penis reduction and braincell suction but alas both failed horribly  I agree with Peter that growing old is better than the alternative ( Permanent Vacation ) but soon I won´t be able to work at the Circus anymore, so I bet I´ll end up as a Sitdown comedian.

Haven´t got the Jim disease yet, but it´s just around the corner

At the tender age of 36, with approx 1 year's martial arts training (that has nothing to do with it, just thought I'd mention it...), I met my current partner - a week after her 18th birthday...

I won't say how many years we've been together as that'd be a giveaway - all I'll say is Don't give up hope - age is NOT a barrier!!!

Remember - you're as young as the person you feel.

Phwoar!!!!

Right!

Age!

I'm 41 now & the problems are (in no particular order)

1 - Jiggling! Don't get me wrong, I'm by no meants fat, but when running up stairs, where all used to be firm, there are now disturbing ripples & vibrations.

2 - Mirrors! In the early morning, there is a strange middle aged man shaving in my mirror; I don't know who he is, where he came from, or what he did with the youngster who used to be in there (mind you, he is damned handsome)

3 - Stamina! Again, I'm not a porker, but 14 years of nicotine has taken its toll; as many of you know (and laugh derisively at), I love psy-trance clubs & will happily dance from 10:00pm to 6:30am - however, some of this time has to be spent in the 'chill out' area, basically getting my breath back - as my friends say - "Jim's had to come up for air again"; mayhap time to knock the ciggies on the head & spend more time cycling.

4 - Young People! Baseball caps, monosyllabic sentences, slovenlyness, arrogance, mobile phone dependency, general ignorance, their mistaken assumption they all come from South Central L.A., appalling music......

And that's just Joren!

5 - Weight! Lets just say one has to be careful, or those saddle bags begin to appear......

6 - Old People! - Whether you admit it or not, they still bug the hell out of you....... all the time. However, now you're getting closer to their age, your belt is rising, and will soon be nearer your armpits than your waist, you WILL begin to wear more layers, you WILL precede most of your sentences with "in my day....." (that's right - intolerance has now turned to fear of the inevitable!)

Having said the above, I luckily have no problems whatever with back-pain, poor eyesight, THAT disease which seems to bear my name (thanks, Danbo - dont you find policemen are looking younger these days?? Present company excepted, of course) , young girls looking at me as if I'm a perv (they just see a middle aged married man ), my wife sounding like nyah, nyah, nyah (sorry guys, I'm very happily married) - and as for flatulence..... Hey, we're getting old! We're supposed to smell like a compost heap! It's in the contract!

So, guys, all in all, age is better than the alternative - and if we weren't 'of a certain age', we might think that Progressive Rock began with Pallas (and how bad would that be?).

We can:

Impart wisdom

Bestow knowledge

Offer advice

Offer reasoned debate

And break wind at will!!

Wear your age with pride!

WRINKLE POWER!!

Now, where are my slippers & pipe?Nurse! Nurse! Nurse!!! NURSE!!! Never mind.....too late!

 JIM

Me ? well I´m not young enough to know everything. I was born on a cold March morning back in 1952, yes 1952, not 1852 and then again 2 weeks later.I´ve been a Clown and an rabid Amateur Gynocologist for years.
