Topic: Hate - is hate a watered down characterization? Posted: August 25 2011 at 13:55 |
Well for
the lack of better ideas i choose to make this poll, close it if it goes out of
hand
I have been thinking a lot about this word/term/adjective?? after the Oslo
terror, i just started to question myself how do I feel about the man behind
it, and I thought of every possible way to categorize my feelings towards it
(but words can't really grasp the massiveness of the crime committed) but i
just had to call it something
i though about the word hate, and hate is a very powerful word, it is very
negative, it is not very good to be hated ( i think) but recently in my head
and in the surroundings i just notice that Hate is used in every
fitted and un-fitted situation-
it is possible to say you hate socialism (with passion) or hate that or that
person, and hate FOX, but you can also use it in not very life threating or life
changing matters such as i hate coke, or i hate Mac, or i hate shorts, or i
hate intensely weekends and such, to me that is watering down of a rather powerful
tag, characterization, is hate to easily used as a word, is it in anyway a watered
down expression (i am not saying people aint righted to use it as it fits them)
but are it used to often without really meaning.
what say you
also i repeat if this topic by any chance are a root for non-friendly posts,
can be closed so i will just note the admins that i am not out for making
flamewars. so you have that in mind...

Hate is a very negative emotion. You'll feel better if you don't waste time hating things.

i have very
hard time to rightfully hate anything, it is just such a comitment and it drags you down to go round and hate,
i rather use the word dislike and dispice but not hate...

I agree that it is an incredibly strong word to use and shouldn't be just thrown around.
However I am one of the people who uses the word very lightly and too often.

Same with love. People say "I love this taco" then tell their family they love them with the same word. Most of the meaning though is communicated in body language and tone, so I don't think it's too big of a problem, but words do lose meaning the more they're used.

The moment someone starts trying to justify hate for anything they are on a bad road.
The most deadly combination in human history has been Hate+Religion.

This could be corrected to Pride+Religion
All organised religion has ever done for society throughout the ages is split people, cause suffering and ultimately millions and millions of deaths. Amazing how one little theory that can cause so much suffering.
Ban all organised religion.

Yeah, it is. At least most of the time. Don't you just hate that?
But it only makes true hate that much more satisfying. ![Cool Cool](https://www.progarchives.com/forum/smileys/smiley16.gif)

Most people I know use the word "hate" very liberally, as well as most cuss words; especially the F word.

especially when it's used as an adverb or used to emphasize something that is already being emphasized ("I f**king hate the word 'hate'"), etc...
My favorite is when someone is talking... "Blah, blah, blah, but f**king, blah blah blah"
I think the F-word has become the new "uh" / "um"
