They are prog ... but you might want to rephrase that bit about Anti-metallists:
Please only vote in this poll if you really know Meshuggah. The question isn't whether you like prog metal, but what you think about Meshuggah.

Thanks. About Adagio: Their album Underworld is awesome. I've created a thread in the recommendations area with links to audio samples. Their previous album is quite good, but Underworld is near perfect. What strikes me most about it is the perfect vocals, the on spot perfect drumming, sparkling keyboards (mostly piano) and the killer melodies (take several listens to unfold).
Tell me what you think about the samples!
Edit: Wrote Underground instead of Underworld

I've only heard a few of their songs, but I've never really thought of them as a Prog band.

I looked on their site once, and I saw they were booked for all the
prog festivals. Meshuggah IMO is one of today's most technical bands.
Their use of insane polyrhythms is beyond anything I ever heard. And
i'm not just talking about 7/8 over 3/4, i;m talking about 21/16 over
13/16 over 17/16 over 4/4.
I know technicality isn't the only thing that makes a prog band
but thats not the only thing going for them. Fredrick Thordenal is very
melodic at times, with holdsworth-like solos. Their drummer Thomas
Haake has very strong fusion influences and a good lyricist.
Definitely one of prog's more brutal bands.

MESHUGGAH PROG I GUESS THAT DEPENDS WHAT YOU THINK PROG IS YES I WOULD AGREE THAT MESHUGGAH IN THE FIELD OF DEATH METAL ARE PROGRESSIVE BUT DOES THAT MAKE THEM FALL IN TO THE BROAD FIELD OF PROG MY ANSWEAR IS NO.I AM SURE MESHUGGAH THEMSELVES WOULD NOT LIKE TO BE CLASSED AS A PROG BAND
AM I QUALIFIED TO MAKE THAT STATEMENT WELL I DO OWN ALL THEIR ALBUMS AND E.PS SO I GUESS I CAN MAKE THE POINT FROM SOMEONE WHO LIKES THE BAND
PROG NO

Meshuggah are progressive metal for sure, the people who say they
aren't obviously haven't listened to "I" or "Catch-33", and those who
have who STILL say they're not prog, well they're either symphonic prog
snobs or are just plain chavistas.

I and Catch 33 are prog albums in my book (and incredible ones at that).
