I like the Crims a lot, but Yes is arguably my favorite band ever.

Though both bands are on my top 5, King Crimson gets my vote.

King Crimson

While YES made the best prog album ever (Tales from topographic oceans), i feel that King Crimson are far more even in quality. King Crimson never made a poor album IMO, and that's something i'm sorry that i can't say about Yes.

Well, I think KC succeeded where Yes failed; to make surprising, new music all the time. From mellotron spheric songs to somewhat metal (red) and in the 80's with a dramatically changed style; funk/new wave-a-like prog rock. Yes desperatly tried fourty years to equalize the class of Close to the edge, but just got simplier and never succeeded. In my opinion.

However I prefer The Yes Album to Going for the One above In the court or Red, but after those classic albums in the golden age of prog rock KC wins for me because of their variety and power to surprise

Variety and surprise isn't what makes music good. If you like KC better, then no big deal, but that shouldn't be the reason.

Confused... I thought this was Close to the Edge.

Anyway, Yes made about four albums which I should give a 5 star rating (Tales would not even get enough to round up to three), King Crimson has about four albums which I might give four when I'm in a good mood, but not five. So my choice is obvious.

there's only one band that can beat Yes and that's Magma. King Crimson comes third.
by the way, Tales From Topographic Oceans is a masterpiece. only a person with earwax problem claims something else ...

I'm for Yes, not that KC are bad, of course...
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

King Crimson without doubt.

Nothing against Yes of course, but KC has made so much gold.
I have 10 albums by them and love it all, the weakest IMO is a 3 star. That is one hell of an impressive discog!

Yes has 2 wonderful albums (and no, they include neither CttE nor TfTO), King Crimson has many more than that
