This may be a goofy topic... but what the heck...

In the last couple months, I have been addicted to listening to albums
from two bands that seem to be very very far apart from each other in style.

Regardless, they have been my two favorite bands this spring season...

Van Der Graaf Generator
  Nuke

and
Journey Hug

Have you ever found yourself listening extensively to some
strange combination of 2 or 3 bands over a period of time?

I am pretty sure I have gone straight from Magma to Carpenters or vice versa a fair few times.  Or Steely Dan and Overkill.

Today I've listened to: Eloy, Tangerine Dream, Senmuth and Crash Test Dummies. Is it strange enough ?
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution

Pretty common, I would have thought. Certainly prog is such a wide-ranging genre in terms of styles, it is impossible sometimes not to. Last night, for me, Nick Magnus followed VDGG, about as far apart as it is possible to get.

FYI: I moved this to General Music Discussions because I felt the focus might not be just on Prog combinations.

I've certainly done the Magma to Carpenters thing.

Not the strangest combination, but last night I listened to Igor Wakhevitch's Docteur Faust followed by Olivia Newton John and ELO's Xanadu.

The other day I played Stockhausen followed by Abba.

I listened to a Lou Reed album (Berlin), then I listened to a Lou Reed album (Street Hassle), then I listened to a Lou Reed album (Transformer), then I listened to a Lou Reed album (Metal Machine Music). Ah, strange combinations.

These days combos like Igor Stravinsky -> Devin Townsend -> Neil Young -> Eskaton aren't that unusual for me.

A few days ago I went from Penderecki to Lady Gaga, which seemed like a logical transition. I would also assume I've went from Chet Baker to Merzbow on several occasions. I can't really think of a strange combination to be honest.

Klaus Schulze to Ruins (that's why I made that poll, I listened to bands like those two back to back, etc).

Just put my itunes in order of LAST PLAYED, and one of the weirdest sequences I found was Celph Titled, Tera Melos, Ulver, Wobbler, Tony William's Lifetime.

Another fun one was Meshuggah, Zaar, Ahvak, Bill Bruford, Atmosphere

Couple more: Passport, Orphans In Coma, R.A. The Rugged Man

Caterpillarmen, Ion Dissonance, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Howl, Glorior Belli

Cloacal Kiss, Anglagard, Down, Blood Duster, Sole

Thats not counting the times it was obviously set to random
