Hi!

I would like to propose the idea of creating a new sub-forum that could contain user contests. When I say user contest, I mean a contest of any sorts (photo shopping, original music, jokes etc...) that could be voted on by users, or voted on by a panel of user judges who sign up for the job.

I'm not just springing this idea randomly, we have this system on another forum, and it is tons of fun.

Just a thought!

EDIT: Prizes could be having "Victor of contest X" in signature, or just an ego boost

If someone wanted to organize it and thought people would participate, why couldn't they put it in JFF? Granted the huge number of posts in JFF would make it difficult to keep it on the front page, but a signature link could help with that.

I'm not supporting this idea until we have full confirmation that prizes will include money, gold or silver. Oh yes and automatical Adminhood.

Are the OLD GEEZERS here at PA too old to compete in silly events? LOL

Just from what I've seen on other forums, there can be silly contests like "Best MS paint rendition of classic prog album", all the way to serious ones like "Best album cover design", or "Best solely keyboard and bass composition".

Just snowballin'!

Many forums have a large contingent of artists and/or skilled image editors to carry such contests, but we pretty much only have musicians who are kind of lazy. If you think people will participate, you can start one right now and we can see if a contest forum could possibly be sustained. I'm just saying that  it probably wouldn't work.

You can make some "pilot episodes" to see if people would be interested, first.

Not a bad idea, even though contest is a disgustingly capitalist activity I generally refuse to participate in (unless the prizes are good).
