Topic: "National" Subgenres! Posted: January 22 2011 at 08:29 |
I´m expecting, judding by frequency of reviews, posts etc., domination of one unnamed subgenre (due to possible bias). Though I´m curious for other results.
Notice for soreheads: Zeuhl isn´t French national subgenre but Kobaďan artificial one, incidentally made in France.

RPI for me, though Canterbury is very close. Krautrock is very hit-or-miss and I dont know any Indo/Raga.

LOL, Canterbury isn't a "national" style, and neither is Indo/Raga (which is mostly comprised of musicians around the world playing in "Indian" style).

I was going to say that Canterbury isn't a nation. But we know it's just for poll purposes. Funnily no Zeuhl here.

Not all Canterbury artists are British. Not all Krautrock groups are German. Not all Zeuhl is French. The overwhelming majority of Indo-Prog is not from India.
Everybody knows RPI will win this.

I know that I should go explore RPI, but now I vote for Canterbury Scene. No doubt.

I only know the Canterbury Scene very well, the rest I've heard some classics but not beyond that. However, that may just say my preference hehe, I do prefer the Canterbury Scene.

Canterbury is my favorite genre out of all genres so it will of course get my vote, and I for one count Canterbury as a national genre, it was created in England and most of the original bands are English (Gong is one exception). But Zeuhl would've suited better in this poll than Indo.

Canterbury is not a nation, but it is contained in one; therefore, the scene is confined to one nation (barring a few strange outliers); ergo, a national subgenre, which is what I think the topic creator meant and is by no means a faulty interpretation of the term,"national sub-genre," so no need to get snippy.

Yes, that's true: not all Zeuhl is French. Only 90% of the bands.

Risky business telling Snowy that Canterbury is not a nation . I don't think he'll take it lightly.
Cantenbury for me closely followed by Krautrock!
I can hear him coming I'm off!
