After spending many years away from prog-rock and listening and studying the second vienesse school(Schoenberg,Berg and Weber) I am curious to know if any prog bands have ever written any seriously non-tonal works or use any hardcore atonal techniques?

FAUST have made a few instrumental tunes using a-tonal processes. For instance "noizes from Pythagoras", their album "rien", the tune "chromatic"

also the jazz guitarist Fred FRITH uses atonal guitar
