Topic: Trouble getting to site Posted: January 06 2011 at 16:38 |
I guess I'm supposed to post this here.
My problem is that I can not get to the site by simply typing in the URL as always. I have to go to Google, type in progarchives, and follow the link there. This appears to be the case on both my home computer and the ones at school.

Why would you always type in the URL? Have you not heard of bookmarks or favourites?
Anyway, what happens when you type in the URL?

I get a message saying:
"Oops! That link is broken."

Didn't seem to change anything for me; still end up on the same page.

Just ran CCleaner and rebooted and it seems to be fine now Edit: now it's not working again; have to go through Google again.

I don't know if this is related but recently I haven't been able to get here by going to progarchives.com (which is what my bookmarks are); I have to add the www in front of it each time to make www.progarchives.com

^ I just tested that out as well. Same thing happens for me, I can't access it without the www (my bookmarks work fine though).

progarchives.com doesn't work for me but I don't know if it ever did as my bookmarks point to www.progarchives.com. Just change your bookmarks.
Actually both names resolve to the same IP so not sure why the first one isn't working.

http://progarchives.com/ doesn't work for me either, but when I was documenting on how to set-up my own site I read that you often need to activate something in order to have the site loading without the www in front. Fortunately the wordpress software I'm using takes care of this automatically, but this may not be the case in PA's case.

With a decent browser you should hardly ever have to type URLs. Firefox for instance has a URL search function and Bookmarks.
