What a shame!  As a new member I have enjoyed being a part of the voting in the various poll's in the PA forum.  It's a real shame that a few idiots have ruined it for the rest of us newbies who have enjoyed having our say count!

However, by blanket restricting all of us newbies for the sake of a few who might be trying to mess it up, I'm not sure that this will actually make the polls results anymore truthful as anyone who is a newbie now cannot have their vote count - this surely will also lead to a result in the polls which is not a true reflection on what members think as a whole section of the PA members are now not part of this.  Surely this restriction will have a greater impact on the results of the polls than the few idiots who might have tried to sabotage the results in the first place - and now in essence they have won.

If I'm not mistaken, the limit to become a groupie is 40.
We figured that that is a number of posts that most people who join the forums to do more than just being able to review will reach in short time anyway. The way things are now, it is also a sufficient threshold to stop people who create the bogus accounts. Sorry for the inconvenience, but at this time, this was the only solution.

People would go through the trouble of setting up bogus accounts and posting stuff just to influence a poll? ROFL, srzly.

The policy was put in place to prevent abuse but I suspect some abusers will work their way around it yet it does serve to make it more difficult.

No. Try to read properly, Mike Tongue. They're silly enough to create bogus accounts to influence a poll. Putting this restriction in place raises the threshold sufficiently to stop them from doing this.

Yeah. And if people start making bogus accounts and posting 50 times with each of them just to influence a poll, I think they need a psychiatrist. LOL

That's exactly what this is about. We do have members that take especially the prog polls seriously, and we'd regret seeing those people leave when they run into the umpteenth wrecked poll.

Maybe the people taking the prog polls seriously should get out more. We're putting dumb restrictions in place in order to encourage new posters to stay active. My fear is that these restrictions will turn potential new members off, and we'll lose them.

I have to say, I agree with it. Sure there are some a****les who will ruin it for all the newbies, but no one really takes those polls too seriously... (I think). I know that I will never get offended if "x band beats y band", at least. It's just for fun and good discussion IMO.Smile

It think I agree as well - it will probably benefit the site. I just meant that it really sucks for the legitimate newbies, and the people who take these polls really seriously need to get out more. TongueLOL
