Just the mainstream hard rock monster on this poll. For me was Deep Purple by millions of miles

I think both are excellent bands, but Led Zeppelin gets my vote. I know you've all heard this a million times, but Led Zeppelin IV is just such an amazing album. I'm being honest when I say "Stairway to Heaven" is the weakest track on there, and even that's great. "When the Levee Breaks" may just be the best Hard Rock song ever.

I guess Zep will win most polls (in this forum) where they aren't put against a prog band. Perhaps if they were matched against The Beatles?

Deep Purple.
Not a huge fan of either, though I do like DP. LZ is tolerable, but I hardly ever listen to them.

Deep Purple is not a consistent band, changed so many crew, many weak albums. So i voted for Zeppelin
|
Really don't mind if you sit this one out.
My words but a whisper, your deafness a shout.

The Beatles are horrible....not even tolerable for me. Sgt Pepper is it, barely.....After that its all whiny Paul & John lyrics boyfriend/girlfriend krapp.
BTW....Led Zepp always wins.

I've seen both and both put on a great show in their prime but I gotta go with Robert,Jimmy,Bonzo and John on this.

I love both of them about equally but Deep Purple gets my vote. Led Zeppelin is more bluesy but Deep Purple has great ballads and is far more prog-ish.
Ritchie FTW! (Even though he's a pain to work with)

Usually, I would have said Deep Purple, but when they sank to a low, it was REALLY low. LZ had a wonderfully consistant high output quality without any duds but never reached the height of DP at their best. Sorry, I can't vote on this.

They may have become classic rock now......but they definitely were hard or heavy rock.
